Leave it to a Vic to almost kill half a dozen spectators trying to take a catch in the crowd.

Progressive or whatever you say it is, can't help but see that umpire as big ****ing *****
It's not often I agree with this guy but I do here. Giant douche move. The odds would sooner dictate wearing a helmet in the crowd, in the street, walking under a bloody tree than umpiring. Looks stupid and won't catch on

piss off. australian umpire got hit the other month in india, and there's a grade ump who wears a helmet after being smashed badly too. there's good reason to worry

I'm not trying to have a go at him, there's nothing for him to be embarrassed about and kudos for doing whatever you need to stay safe.

Just saying the initial autonomic reaction I had when I saw it, and I'm sure a lot of people will have the same initial feelings.

People probably thought the same when Batsmen first started wearing helmets

i don't really feel confident with the Gades, but their team does look pretty good.

Seeing Gannon pop up here reminds me of one of the Heat's problems. The QLD ODI team, which is gonna form the basis of a Heat T20 team, already sucks, but adding on the lose of Boyce, Gannon and Usman to it dents it further (Tbf, not sure if Gannon is still with QLD, but then Usman isn't still with NSW...)

edit oh and Rimmington is a former QLDer too. Given he's not with Perth, I count that as a miss too

The non Melbourne/Sydney sides seem to be falling away a bit, and relying on overseas players.

Other than Scorchers who are looking strong as ever.

Gannon might be suited well to this wicket, smashing it in and taking the pace off. Thing is that the short boundaries are the shortest.

What year did they switch the wicket around, I remember it being small straight at first at Etihad. Shaun Marsh got that 99 (which has about fifteen mentions tonight) hitting straight bombs the whole time, I was sure.

huh I know they have a roof but surely you can't have a cricket pitch that doesn't run north/south

No midwicket for the whole innings bowling this short of a length stuff - you have to take a risk at some stage and bring it up.

They might have a chance for the squad but you can't pick everyone... I would imagine that Finch/Warner/Smith/Maxwell would definitely be selected in the Aus top 7 for World T20I's. That only leaves one batting spot if they pick two all arounders out of Watson/Faulkner/M Marsh with a keeper at 8 and three specialist bowlers. No doubt they will look at S Marsh as a batter as well as Lynn/Klinger/Bailey/maybe Voges.

Hard to tell who the specialist bowlers are and whether they'll even be fit.

Good night at Etihad tonight, 26,000 odd in for the game

Noise, the only time time the music, motorbikes, PA announcer, and random drumming noises stopped was when the bowler started running in. Loud enough that you cant talk without raising your voice

Those flames throwers are bloody hot even when you are 20 rows back.

Gayle, Finch, Wade and Bravo were trying for the big hits, Gayle doesnt seem to like to run much but he did like Brad Hogg's bowling tonight..
Cameron White is having a bad trot,it may be time for him to give it away.

Joel Paris didnt have a good night. Behrendorff did tho'

Klinger showed up the opposition by placement and running hard, they were up with the Renegades score for all but a couple of overs.
Smarsh took to Hauritz for about 4 sixes.
The Scorchers placed the ball well and ran for everything.
