Indian pitches to blame for this aswell?
It does effect a team. The Indian tour was tough. Obviously it cannot be given as an excuse. However, it is definitely tough to come straight into this test after that long tour. That cannot be denied in any way. Not that it takes away from the English victory or doesn't say that South Africa is a weaker team now than before.

Yeah they had no time to regroup and find some form. They probably needed a fortnight away from cricket to freshen their minds then a couple of games each to find some form but instead within a fortnight they get pummelled again. Going to be hard to come back given the lack of fight shown here.

Superb morning session, SA still got demons against spin. Suppose the pitches for the rest of the series will be prepared to try and neutralise that, but with Anderson/Broad/Finn that isn't a major issue for us.

Boycott made the same observation, these pitches are not the dust bowls they faced in India while its doubtful that Ali is in the same class as Ashwin, but they simply have lost all confidence against spin. They should be tempted to look at players who were not part of that series as they won't have the emotional baggage as some many of them seem to have at the moment.

Even better news for England is Duminy getting worthless runs, makes his selection next test more likely.

Two cracking shots from Duminy. He probably has rescued himself given the sheer amount of out of form players in the SA team.

241 runs is an incredible margin. Being ultra picky, our openers will need to perform better for rest of the series and our batsmen in general need to start scoring big hundreds instead of good looking 70/80s. Starting again overnight is something the team as a whole has to work on with the bat.

Superb with the ball though. To lose the toss and win 1st Test of an away series is great.

Get Cook and de Kock in, Bavuma is not a test match batsman either.
Didn't show much test did he?

Sadly they can only bring in one player I think for second test unless someone gets injured.

So its either Cook or QDK.

Tough call as they need both asap.
