Don't see him playing International matches in near future, given the pace bowling stock Australia has...He needs to be back to 100% fitness with his pace and swing and stamina of the NZ-series level (which will take a long time in itself), and I think by that time the likes of Pattinson will produce some such incredible performances that Starc has to show some good results in domestic/A circuit before coming back

It's a pity because I liked his personality (not a huge fan of his bowling though)

I think right now he's clearly in the best 3 red ball quicks too.
Yeah no doubt but weldone's point is arguable in regards to how that will play out. Pattinson definitely was before his injury too but he was out for a while, the blokes in his place did well and he ended up having to wait for an injury to get back in. It's not impossible to imagine something similar will happen while Starc's out, even though I think the bowling depth is being tested a bit more now that Johnson has retired and Siddle is looking ever more pedestrian.

It's definitely not going to be an issue for him to get back in the limited overs side straight away though. He's very arguably the best ODI bowler in the world, the selectors do like to rotate the bowlers in limited overs cricket a bit, there's less depth because Pattinson and Siddle aren't very good white ball bowlers, and the they'll want to give him an opportunity to get some cricket under his belt if there's no Shield on at the time too.

It's possible that what weldone said could apply to Starc's Test place even though he'd be certainly picked right now if he was fit.. but it's not going to apply to his ODI place so "don't see him playing international matches in the near future" is just a massive stretch unless he thinks he's not going to be playing domestic cricket either. He'll be back playing ODis as soon as he can run again.

Ya I had mainly test cricket in mind. Everybody plays ODIs nowadays, unless it's a major comp like World Cup.

But I disagree with the 'Siddle looking pedestrian' comment.

Starceh right back when he is fit. The pace stocks are not as good as it was say 12 months ago when Pattinson and Starc were the ones warming the bench.

Yeah, there's no Harris and MJ now, plus it's only a matter of time before Siddle is done.

Yeah there is a whole ream of white ball team sheets with Starc's name printed on em in the selection room. If he can bowl he'll play.

Tests will depend on who's performing, but they'll be keen to get him back.

NCN and The Dorff will both be handy Test players when they get their shots. Cummins must surely get fit enough to bowl some day. Forkers would do a job as would The Chadd. So there's still plenty of depth depending on injuries and form.

NCN is just so bland though, if Siddle is vanilla than NCN is creamy vanilla at best.

Nothin wrong with creamy vanilla.

Siddle is more like a snow cone before you put the flavouring on

I wonder if I could win any money on no West Indian batsman going higher than Shiv on the ICC rankings before he retires.

Its good probably better than most but it was ridiculously good say 12 months ago.

If Starc,Pattinson and Hazlewood can get their fitness up and form a unit, then its pretty g00d for years to come but there would be a certain drop in quality if one of them goes down unless Cummo glues it up.

Feel sorry for Smitteh watching his performance on The Project tonight.

Bloke has clearly insulated himself within the cricketing scene from an early age and has never had an actual conversation in his life.

Yeah he looked pretty uncomfortable alright. He's big into his horses too, so it doesn't surprise me that he didn't really know how to take the type of questions he was being asked. Mind you, they were pretty stupid questions to begin with. Smitteh was looking for Fred for assistance basically the entire segment.

A link to the show in question.

He's always been a bit awkward

I wonder if he'll ever surpass that time Lee/Tait or someone knocked some poor schmuck out and Smith grabbed the dude's bat and started shadow batting on the wicket.
