***Official*** West Indies in Australia 2015/16

Just a few months back, they drew a series v England at home. Even NZ had a poor first test in Australia. Australia is a tough place to play. This says more about the state of affairs of cricket at the moment than the Windies team.

They only really drew with England because England were poor and Graves motivated the West Indies by calling them mediocre. West Indies are bad and getting worse and it's hard to see how they'll bring it back now (in test cricket) with the T20 money that players can make.

I'd imagine there is so much structurally that needs to happen in the organistation of WI cricket and given it's just a group of islands with different governance it must be extremely hard to make the changes needed. T20 has changed everything in that regard- and the WI needs to adapt as a consequence but it must be a damn near impossible job imo.

When NZ was getting flogged in the field I still got the sense that they cared. That they were as a group and individuals disappointed. WI don't give you either of those.

Chris Rogers was commentating on the ABC yesterday and complemented some of the young guys in the WI side from the tour early this year - asked lots of questions, eager to learn etc

However, from what he saw, administration of the game in the WI was an utter shambles with very little grass roots structure and masses of political interference

His opinion was not only confirmed by WI commentator but he said "it's worse than that" and painted a really ugly picture of constant interference from 16 (?) sovereign states all looking to push their own barrow

The way they came back after lunch was just awful. One quick wicket and we were in all sorts. Voges batted beautifully, but as I said at the time the bowling and fielding was just centre practice stuff. Actually worse than that. There just seemed to be no plan to put pressure on. It was almost like they were embarrassed about getting Australia's best two bats before lunch and wanted to make amends.

It's not easy to win a series v test playing nation like England just by motivation and just because England was poor. Ability is needed. The last year has seen some nice talent in the test squad. As a cricket fan, I would like more patience as test cricket is some thing special. However, with T20 leagues coming up every where like popcorn pops up, it looks sad right now for me as a cricket lover.

A couple of the english players have written books or columns since this tour about being made to felt very uncomfortable and threatened by the west indian players and people around the WI team.

This article for instance. STUART BROAD: West Indies 'mediocre' abuse left us fearing for our safety | Daily Mail Online

It really gave them the motivation that they needed. A motivation that seems lacking around the team the rest of the time. I agree there is still a reasonable amount of talent around. If there was a good system in place that kept players happy, well managed, and well paid then I'd guess the motivation would be there and they'd be a very decent team - but there isn't.

I seriously reckon England would have won that series comfortably were it not for Graves calling them mediocre. As it turned out it wasn't bad for England because it gave them a tough series before they headed to play NZ and AUS at home (and it brought about the sacking of Moores which many would say was needed).

Another promising start to the day

Voges triple is practically confirmed bar some cruel act of god.

Question now, how does this WI side rank against the WI teams of the last 15 years? Must be pretty much the worst of a bad bunch. At least throughout the 00's, WI still had Lara/Chanders and Gayle.

Probably second to the 2009 side against Bangladesh.

As low as West Indian cricket has sunk in the last 15 years, they've always had at least one saving grace. This side has no redeeming factors at all.
