tbf it does depend on the defensive capabilities of the batsmen in the middle. Amla and Devilliers both have a good stonewall game so should do that. Some batsman are legitimately more likely to get out stonewalling as attacking so should just cut loose (eg, gooptill) so the "natural game" argument holds some weight with certain players.
In a broad sense, yea, but the evidence this series has been that every player's "natural game" has lead to disaster (except ABDV ofc). Continue to bat that way would just be ridiculous. And even someone as out of touch and clueless as Faf managed to survive 100+ balls at Nagpur by abandoning his natural game. Elgar has done it a few times too.

Doesn't make sense to keep repeating methods that have failed all series, instead of trying something that has kinda sorta worked before.
