if this was the plunket shield then nz would be set for 300 after a good platform of 100+ for 6.

but this is not the plunketroll shield.

You've gotta give it to Santner, I didn't thnk he should've been selected but be's been one of our best performers in this game.

It's probably only because they were both guys who could kind of bowl and awkwardly bat thrown into a trainwreck series but Santa's performance here feels similar to Steve Smith in the 2010 Ashes.

Not yet, but will.

Don't see it at all tbh. That series Smith went from the next big thing to people saying he was the worst test 6 of all time. This test has only been good for Santner's rep.

yeah he looks so unflustered for a guy who by all means should be miles out of his depth at this stage in his career.

Some people excel at international level, defying their 1st class stats because representing their country brings out the best in them. Notable NZ examples are Coney and Jones. Santner looks like he has the temperament and focus to excel at this level.

Actually, despite their styles being completely different, I'd say it's a bit more reminiscent of Stokes in 13/14, in terms of doing better than expected, even though everyone else struggled.
