The only defence for Llong was the lack of cooperation of the TV company. He asks for snicko side by side with hotspot but they do not provide it. He asks for the view from mid-off to be replayed slowly (it showed the deflection), but they don't, they show a different view instead.

The RTS is either badly out of sync or from a different delivery entirely. There is a clear deflection on the snicko BEFORE the ball gets near the bat, none when it passes the bat and almost none when it hits Lyon's shoulder. Either way something was amiss. Given that the Hawkeye was for a different delivery, I suspect that the RTS was also for a different delivery. How and why?

On the other hand how Llong managed not to notice that the tracking was for a different ball is beyond me: Lyon hit it to short fine leg FFS.

The funny thing was that you could see the deviation of the bat in some of the replays. But Llong didn't seem to note it. He also says "ok, so hes definitely not out lbw" when we can all see it was a different delivery. What the f*ck. He's on the ICC elite panel and he says that rather than "guys, you've given me the wrong footage". To me that's pretty damning, inexcusable really.

Why was there no indication on snicko when the ball hit Lyon's shoulder? Have had a look at comments being made elsewhere, and they're saying the same thing I am - the RTS seemed to be from another delivery entirely, just as the lbw footage was.
If that's the case, the broadcaster needs to issue an apology and explanation. The IRB apologised after Craig Joubert's mistake in a quarterfinal, which at least involved a split second decision. This appears to involve both umpire and broadcaster error.

So annoyed I have had to put money on Australia to win as emotional insurance.

Have a look at the footage - when the ball hits Lyon's shoulder, nothing registers on snicko.

Over-dependence on the TV companies to provide a core part of the third umpire's job is perplexing too. Why does the third umpire have to verbally describe the camera view they want to see and then get the tv company to provide the feed? Surely that should be automated - the third umpire should just be able to press buttons to scroll through the available cameras and preferably view them all side by side on 10 screens if need be.

I didn't realise the process was so manual and as a result, wouldn't be at all surprised if yesterday's snicko feed was the wrong one and it's probably happened before too without anyone knowing.

After the wrong footage was shown on the lbw call, why did no-one look to correct Llong's call of "ok, so he's definitely not out lbw" made when reviewing incorrect footage. Surely those providing the footage must have noted the mistake, even if Llong was bizarrely oblivious, and had an obligation to correct the error while the review process was ongoing.

I agree 100%. Without independent oversight, it is impossible to have confidence in the system. Channel 9 have an interest in the Australian side doing well - the viewers and the advertisers want to see Aussies on top. There is a conflict of interest there surely.

hang on

a banana and a note saying "KFC" are clearly visible in a picture of a third umpire screwing over New Zealand to save an Australian cricketer?

That's not Nigel Llong, Benchmark00 has got himself a new gig and was resorting to desperate measures.

And that's the game.

So ends any feeble hopes we may have had. Probably BJ's worst series since his return to the side.
