Mid-way through the 2nd session, they had gone through 11 balls this match

Fail to see how that is a good look for CA or Kookaburra

Thought the groundsman said they were leaving more grass on to make sure the pink ball doesn't #getrekt.
Odd, i thought it was the grass that was destroying it so dreadfully in the first place, especially given the green at the Adelaide is getting rather special treatment in the leadup.

saw some people having a go at CA after they announced they'd have a review of Kookaburra/the balls, as if they're in some way at fault for this?

Thanks social.
I was listening to it on the radio at the time and consensus was that it wasn't perfect but as series had been played in good spirit and Taylor is a very popular player, it was just one of those things where players were in all parts of ground

Alderman did say that if it had been him, he would seek him out for a beer later as he deserved better

Bizarre

Ball goes soft, doesn't swing and costs much more than a Duke - CA should be hammering Kookaburra and conducting an open tender when contract comes up for renewal

The most disappointing, and well bizarre, behaviour of the Channel 9 commentary team thus far this summer, other than the usual crap, is their treatment of the NZ team.

I understand the panel consists of basically all former Australian test players and its obvious that they want Australia to win. I understand that. A bit of bias can be completely expected.

But just the lack of care or respect given to the NZ team is just bizarre. Continually pronouncing names wrong (No wonder the 12th man has formally retired) while not even bothering to look up basic statistics is just so bad.

The strangest thing, from my POV, is that you would think that it would be in C9s interests to build up a rivalry between the two nations. Now that NZ has an excellent cricket team, doesn't it make sense for CA and C9 to establish a fierce rivalry between two countries that are rivals in other sports.

Its so strange that C9 basically showcases Australian players, while I think marketing could be better used in advertising the arrival of new and interesting players.

If so, CA might not need to rely on just two or three countries to bring in the punters.

The casual fan only cares for those having immediate success and only if the success is Australian. Given this is to whom Channel 9 pledges allegiance instead of to people who actually care about the game beyond casual nationalistic BS, it's not surprising that they neither care nor try to show genuine interest nor go to any extraordinary effort to showcase overseas players or the up and coming in Australia.

I just hope to god when Nine's tv rights expire whenever that may be, Channel 10 actually pounces for rights.

Guys are on big money and most of them don't watch cricket outside the matches they are commentating upon - Taylor doesn't watch domestic cricket FFS

Comes from the top and is a by-product of holding a monopoly

Having said that, it has improved this year

It's not strange, or bizarre. It's not even remotely surprising. The average ch9 cricket viewer is a borderline cricket-fan who knows **** all about overseas cricket teams or cricketers. Having the commentators at their level is understandable, rather than having them just confuse the viewers. It makes the casual viewers feel as though they are learning and experiencing with the commentators to a certain extent.

To us more serious fans, it gets annoying as **** when they openly display such ignorance but I guess that's what we're stuck with.

Personally I don't mind the ignorance of players so much, what annoys me is when the commentators completely misunderstand basic cricket concepts and talk complete **** that makes no sense despite having played 100+ tests each.

edit: Gnske beat me to it

I understand that all, but it seems strange that C9 arent interested in building up a proper rivalry between the two teams

Surely that would improve ratings..

nah, not to appeal to Aussie fans

just pump up a few highlights with "Go Aussie Go" or some **** and talk about how awesome our superstar cricketers are

If Johnson retires after tomorrow it will be interesting to see who would replace him in the squad for Adelaide. Siddle aside there aren't too many obvious options. Not sure if they would look at Bird or Bollinger again and doesn't seem like Pattinson is in the frame just yet.

Johnson has been down on pace this Test, infact I've never seen him bowl this slow at mid 130s. Will be sad to see him retire.

I think Smith should bat till Tea and shake hands for a draw. There isn't much to play for here.

I think its a massive mistake. What better way to convert casual fans than by enticing them into following a contest or rivalry

Or declare at lunch and hope a miracle happens. I don't think NZ can chase 300 in 2 sessions, not with the red ball on a 5th day pitch. It's easy to do at ODIs but not at Tests to go at 5 runs per over against an old ball.
