Nah, that's not a good argument.

I'm pretty sure everybody in this list or any list of best fielding has dropped many. It's just that drops from the old days aren't as well remembered or even been watched by many in the case of some of the players.

I imagine Waugh's competition will come from Ponting. From my memories of when they both played at the same time, Waugh was the better fielder. Whatever Ponting could manage Waugh could do better, with less fuss. He was the better catcher in close and the better slips fielder. My memory, when a direct comparison was possible, was that Mark was better.

Yeah that's a fair point. I haven't watched enough cricket to rank these guys which is why I haven't voted much.

There's a decent amount of data that suggests that Smith drops almost twice as frequently as the average "very good" fielder (27% vs ~10%) in Tests. He seems to be much better in ODIs though.

Yeah, I'm sure you have every "very good" fielder to have ever played the game and all their catches, dropped catches, and attempts listed on your not weird at all cricket ratings.

His speed is extraordinary. One of the more athletic guys to have played the game for sure.

I think I like watching Australian fielders more these days than I do their batting.
