Shocking performance from the Black Caps so far. Pretty disappointed most of my cricket club friends all have ready-made excuses lined up and already talking about how we will win NZ.
There is still 2 tests left after this, I hope we are atleast competitive. Apart from Williamson most of our players have looked like high school 2nd xi cricketers. Its pretty embarrassing.

I think people expect way too much from Ross Taylor. He is just a decent/good test batsman that's gonna cash in vs Windies , Lanka etc but generally be just decent/inconsistent otherwise. His shot selection/general test batsmanship is pretty average. He has done remarkably well to do have as good a record as he does given his limitations. Will go Down as an nz atg odi player but People will keep being disappointed with him as a test batsman.

Its gonna take a miracle to save this test, if the batsmen can hang around for a while, might still need a epic match-saver from mark Craig batting with watling. Then southee comes in at number 11 having to survive 10 overs, slogs as usual but survives, yaaaaaaaay draw time

Yeah no way. Taylor is an ATG NZ Test bat. He is better than Stephen Fleming.

Neesham? He didn't look great whilst bowling in the 2nd dig.

edit: yep.

Ongoing back soreness for Neesham. Looks like Santner will debut in Perth and they'll play 4 quicks. Seems the only way they can do it.

Assuming Southee is out of Perth it's time for Matt Henry to remind everyone how drool-worthy his bowling can be. He should like Perth if he's at his best, with that zip that unfortunately sometimes goes missing, takes the new ball and hits a good length at 140. DON'T BOWL SHORT.

jeez, I can be negative at times but this is pretty scathing and pretty much flat-out unfair

Obv very disappointing Kaneh got out last night. My hackles were raised when I read about the dismissal, but after seeing it have no complaints with either the umpiring decision or the DRS. Only complaint is that I won't get to see Williamson score another 100 and without him NZ's chances of saving the match sink from slim (but possible) to anaemic. That takes some of the interest out of today.

Still expect a lot of fight from the rest. Wonder how McCullum will play.

Given that he was given the new ball in both warm-up games and proceeded to get utterly spanked, I'm not holding my breath.

Mitch M being sent over? Wtf? I mean, I guess he's had a decent start to the season, but the guy wasn't even selected for NZA and it's not like he's been setting the world on fire in LO lately. He probably won't play so it's not a huge deal, but seriously?

Would four quicks plus 10 overs of Kaneh per day really be such a bad idea? Two of the quicks would be I-bowl-lots-of-overs types in Wagner and Bracewell.

Means Ronchi would bat at six instead of Santner, who I think should be a good player for us but feel it's far too early - he's only part way through the transition from spin-bowling allrounder to batting allrounder at domestic level.
