Seriously it's the best thing that Smith is already grumpy as **** as a captain. Was the case last summer too.

I know fielding at short leg sucks but I think it's really unprofessional to just put the biggest newbie in there instead of the guy who's actually best for the job.

I know you're meant to use an instead of a with a vowel, but 'an useless' sounds really odd to me. Someone with better grammar knowledge to tell me if it's right or not.
A or an is determined by the sound not the letter

So useless should never be preceded by an, but spikey is allowed to

i did originally type it as a useless as that seems more normal, but i thought some **** would call me out on it

I get the feeling that sides like Eng and Aus tend to use that position as some sort of initiation/phasing process. "You're new to the side, want our respect? Get under the helmet and take a few blows at short leg."

Yeah they do. I think it's kind of stupid. I guess Asian sides are less likely to do that because they specialise more in putting men around the bat when playing at home or whatever.
