Cricket: Viljoen century proves difference | Otago Daily Times Online News : Otago, South Island, New Zealand & International News

Mind you, Green Island would have been in trouble had it not been for Namibia international Christi Viljoen. He played pretty much a lone hand, cracking 113 from 123 balls to give the Swamp Rats attack some latitude.

Viljoen, who is waiting on a working visa, has his sights set on playing for Otago this summer and impressed during a twenty20 trial match at Brooklands Park on Friday evening. He clubbed 41 from 29 deliveries and was in good touch on Saturday as well, hitting eight fours and six sixes.

Can SteveNZ please drop into the Plunket Shield draft thread to update us on CdG's apprentice sparky plans?

Haha I can do it here if you like...what did I say originally? He is an apprentice sparkie, if I said it would get in the way of his cricketing future then that was pure speculation and nonsense. Still playing, just not bowling through injury.

What can you tell me about Warren Barnes? Who is he similar to out of the bowlers I'd have seen.

Dean Bartlett, would be my best comparison. Tall, hits the deck hard, bit of nibble, level-headed good bloke. Sort of guy who would toil on a EPOO road on a stinking hot day and require only a pat on the back as recompense.

Just noticed they've dumped the travelling carnival format from last year's GPSS. Thank god someone at NZC has some sense.

There they at.

Jeez, the TAB really has my account as a "person of interest" these days.

What's Tom Bruce's story? Late on the scene if you count 23 as late, and now has played 18 innings across all three formats and passed 50 in 10 of them, including a FC ton. And at a ridiculously good clip. Plus he bowls.

Rugby player who was doing a degree in Christchurch. Fetches the ball and pummels it through the leg side like a younger and better Rob Nicol, this thread's verdict was last year. Enjoys Pukekura Park.

Yeah I can absolutely see the Rob leg-side stuff. Looks like he's got a fair eye and times it well, so no doubt he likes Puke Park. Probably won't mind the highway at McLean Park either.

Improve his offside drives and we've got ourselves a prospect. Looks tidy despite being in white ball biff mode.

NZC have introduced prize money. 100k for T20 and 40k each for plunket shield and ford trophy.

I think they have it around the wrong way.
