India have lost 4 wickets to Elgar and he has bowled well... but they where mainly trying to score off him rather than play the ball on merit. This is a 300 run pitch if slow and steady batting is done, trying to dominate on this pitch is just gonna get you in trouble, imo.

True on paper but cricket is a funny game. The inexperienced SA batting line up will suddenly feel a little more confident going into bat knowing India are bowled out for 220 as opposed to 400.

And we are the best at doing that in test cricket. For quite some time now really. Our batsman have adapted to pitches world wide and game situations and what they require. Hence our test record since Mickey Arthur formed that team about 8 to 9 years ago now.

If they've had to grind it out, they have done. Especially in the sub-continent.

We going to have to do more of that here if we going to be successful in this test match.

I was just gonna post something like "Sir J. has a good eye for risklessly slogging balls that pitch outside leg, so it only appears he will get out LBW soon...." Anyway, still the 2nd highest score on the card. Can I remind you all that top scorer Vijay actually got off the mark with an edge that just evaded the slips (or was it gully)? Fair to say Jadeja did ok today.
