He got halfway there to losing it today tbh, seemed far too content prodding his way there for a last over/last ball finish almost like he presumed no variables would pop up.

I'd dare say that sort of approach in the finale of that match situation is far worse than Rahane came close to doing.

Oh yeah, I completely agree that Dhoni played a far worse innings than Rahane did. But Dhoni's got the history/keeping thing going for him which Rahane doesn't, so the guy with fewer arrows in his quiver should lose out. Dhoni + Rahane's replacement > Rahane + random newbie keeper IMO.

Seriously the guy went from 10 (17) to 31 (30).. he scored 21 off 13 in the final overs without taking much risks, someone need to smash just 1 boundary someone down the line and it would have been India's game pretty much.

I think most people here on CW take cricket very seriously..it might seem odd to you, you can even laugh about it, but yeah CW is not going to stop taking cricket seriously though.

Shame that South Africa is not part of the Big 3 and don't get to play India as much. These two teams have some of the best limited overs cricketers in the world today, Amla, ABD, Kohli, Dhoni, Rohit, Tahir, Ashwin etc..this is going to be one great series.

Gotta risk it to get the biscuit etc. I'm not totally against the method he took, he upped the rate nicely with his nudging. But as you said someone just needed to smash a boundary and those last overs when Dhoni was taking the strike was crying for one or two more risk hits (that paddle was neato) in between the calculated nudges for the other 4 or 5 balls in the over.

Power of hindsight and all is a privilege though, another day and he would have pulled it off.

lose 1 match, all of a sudden the best 6 batsmen in the country are not up to standard and not good enough for International cricket
