I don't even think it's so much that. Kohli's still going to be better than most in this situation IMO. The problem is the opportunity cost: what he provides at three in chases. If he'd got the start Rahane did he would have been much less likely to throw it away, and coming in now with the run rate pressure as it is was going to be harder for any batsman than coming in when Rahane did. The opportunity to get set with less pressure earlier in the innings has kind of been wasted now. This is the problem with Kohli coming in at this stage of the game in a match like this. He is just not used to batting in situations like these.
Yep. If Kohli had got the start Rahane did at 3 today, SA were dead and buried.I don't even think it's so much that. Kohli's still going to be better than most in this situation IMO. I think you have to give Kohli a proper opportunity to get set in chases because he's so good at taking it deep. It's true with Dhoni too to an extent but I can see why they'd want to protect him from the new ball as well, which isn't as important with Kohli.
Completely misconstruing my issue with Rohit, but okay sure.Rohit performing under pressure like you'd expect from one of the best ODI openers in the world. Cop it *****
I agree Kohli needs to come in earlier, but the only way he does that is by batting three.I don't even think it's so much that. Kohli's still going to be better than most in this situation IMO. The situation wouldn't be like this because Kohli would have scored much more in 82 balls than Rahane did, that's the point.Completely misconstruing my issue with Rohit, but okay sure.

If he bats at three, then you have Rahane coming in at situations like this, and he is a lot less suited to these situations than Kohli is..
Um there have been situations like this loads of times in the past. Rahane and Rayudu flopped more often than not.The situation wouldn't be like this because Kohli would have scored much more in 82 balls than Rahane did, that's the point.
