If a consensus can't be reached in here that Bevan would have a much higher strike-rate if he was playing today then I will lose faith in the human race.
In fairness it's only one guy arguing otherwise. If a consensus can't be reached in here that Bevan would have a much higher strike-rate if he was playing today then I will lose faith in the human race.
No, if a team is at risk of being bowled out then it's better to have players with high averages, even if their strike rates are poor. Strike rate only becomes important once you last the 50.Hmm. So when a batsman comes in at 4/60 chasing 190 with a required run rate of 4, they should slog and make 15 (15) rather than make 65* (80) because that will win more games?
Literally no-one is arguing that Bevan would necessarily have the same SR. The question is by how much it would differ, and in what situations. In fairness it's only one guy arguing otherwise.
Seems reasonable. What about Bevan vs. Maxwell in an Aussie ATG XI at 6? You know, the question that started this whole ****fight?- You've accepted that you would take Bevan in the team based on his first innings stats
- You have a problem with his second innings stats because his SR is too low
- Bevan is known to be one of the best chasers the game has seen. Maybe his SR was low in those situations because he would time chases to perfection while minimizing any unnecessary risks?
- Thus there's no reason his second innings stats can't be similar to the first if the situation demanded it
- Since they would likely be similar, you will welcome him with open arms into the NZ ODI XI
yep. This **** isn't rocket science, kiwiviktor. In fact I'm going to abbreviate your name to KW from now on. Would be very fitting now I think about it.- You've accepted that you would take Bevan in the team based on his first innings stats

Who is this Aussie ATG XI playing? If it's anyone of an equal standard then replace NZ ODI XI in my post with Aussie ATG XI.Seems reasonable. What about Bevan vs. Maxwell in an Aussie ATG XI at 6? You know, the question that started this whole ****fight?
We can discuss this when Maxwell can do something like this:Seems reasonable. What about Bevan vs. Maxwell in an Aussie ATG XI at 6? You know, the question that started this whole ****fight?

As I have said at least ten, if not twelve times on this thread already.
OK, let's wait until Maxwell has played 232 ODIs to continue this discussion. We can discuss this when Maxwell can do something like this:

It was a good innings but nope. The 3 harsh listed are among the best ever played in LOIs.OK, let's wait until Maxwell has played 232 ODIs to continue this discussion.
By the way, the second match you listed - Maxwell played a better innings just the other day.
It probably would have been if Bailey hadn't gone all Michael Bevan at the end there.Maxwell's innings wasn't even in a winning cause...
Probably 65(120) might do if you have a decent slogger at the other end. But I would prefer a 65(70) batsman with no-nonsense mode. (Ex. Dhoni)Hmm. So when a batsman comes in at 4/60 chasing 190 with a required run rate of 4, they should slog and make 15 (15) rather than make 65* (80) because that will win more games?
excellent logic
And you're aware Bevan struck at over 80 in 1st innings aren't you? You're aware that sometimes Australia batted first?
