VKB Knights announced their contracted squad for the 2015/16 season at their awards

The VKB Knights squad for 2015/2016 was announced at the annual Awards function last week;
Werner Coetsee (Captain), Pite van Biljon (Vice Captain), Gerhardt Abrahams, Tumelo Bodibe, Corne Dry, Dillon Du Preez, Michael Erlank, Quinton Friend, Reeza Hendricks, Tumi Masekela,
Duanne Olivier, Obus Pienaar, Diego Rosier, Rilee Rossouw, Rudi Second, Letlotlo Sesele, Malusi Siboto and Shadley van Schalkwyk.
Team Management and Support Staff – Sarel Cilliers (Head Coach), Morne Castelyn (Fitness Trainer), Molebatsi Thleltsane (Physiotherapist) and Dr Louis Holtzhausen (Team Doctor)

The best of the VKB Knights were recognised for their contribution during the 2014/2015 cricket season.

I find things embarrassing. We have so much talent but the way CSA is arranging our domestic set-up it can only stunt growth of our own players.

Obviously quotas etc but also the fact that they wanted 6-man teams to have strength v strength and now it won't be happening. If they want to do what they doing, then we need at least 8 teams or just go back to provincial cricket.

Like the amateur set-up too. I thought it was really good they played so many games as it is meant for young players to learnt heir trade. Score runs and take wickets. Now because so financially ****ed CSA couldn't afford the travel for so many games.

They probably start with that and then fall back on young players as they have done the last few seasons. So guys like Frylinck, Savage, Dupavillon, Kirsten, Engelbrecht, Subrayen to carry the drinks & play for KZN amateur when a lot of them need to be playing franchise cricket. Young batsman Muthusamy/Oldfield have big seasons ahead of them for KZN. Khan & D. van Wyk only 4-day openers & Pillans is only a 4-day bowler.

Abbott , Miller back after ODI's. Zondo there quickly for T20's

Good to see you back mate.

They show 2 games each on the Saturday and Sunday of the 6 group games live. Haven't looked if there is live streaming. There normally is but not sure if it can be watched outside SA ? Must check if CSA website have next weekend.

2 more weekends of qualifying.

Was kind of hoping he would sign for a county after his impressive 2nd XI performances. Sean Dickson seems to have sealed a place at Kent.

See a lot of players going to County cricket,or go elsewhere,see,interesting where they end up.
Sussex has a weak side they could do with Van Buuren.

A couple of SA first-class cricket legends passed away in the last week or so.

RIP Neil Rosendorff & Phil Amm

THE Free State Cricket Union has heard with sadness of the passing of former Free State batsman, Neil Rosendorff, on Saturday the 12th of September 2015 at the age of 70.

Rosendorff played first-class cricket for Free State from 1962 to 1979 and was one of the best players of his generation. A left-hander, he was part of the Golden Age of South African Schools cricket that included the likes of Barry Richards, Mike Procter, Lee Irvine and Hylton Ackerman to name a few.

He was unlucky not to achieve higher honours. He was only 25 years old when South African cricket’s isolation started.

He toured England with SA Schools in 1963 and with the Wilf Isaacs Invitation team In 1969. Some of his team mates on that latter tour included Vintcent van der Bijl, Graeme Pollock, Don Mackay-Coghill and Johnny Waite.

In 1969 he was named one of South Africa’s five cricketers of the year. Free State awarded him the same honour the same year.

He made his debut as a 16-year-old and scored 11 first-class centuries and 26 first-class half-centuries throughout his 18 seasons with Free State cricket, and as a right-arm medium bowler he took a total of 68 wickets.

A multi-talented sportsman, he won Free State age group tennis titles, represented Bloemfontein City in the National Football League, and was a champion bowler both for Free State and South Africa.

The Free State Cricket Union extends deepest condolences to his family, friends and the cricketing fraternity.

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) has heard with shock and sadness of the sudden passing of Philip Amm at the age of 51.

Amm represented SA Schools and SA Universities as well as Eastern Province and Border and was one of the outstanding opening batsmen of the 1980s and early 1990s to be playing under the aegis of the South African Cricket Union.

The highlight of his career was undoubtedly the Currie Cup Final between Eastern Province and Transvaal in which he made his highest first-class score of 214 against Clive Rice’s redoubtable ‘Mean Machine’ attack. This innings played a major part in Eastern Province winning their first ever Currie Cup title under the captaincy of Kepler Wessels.

In all, he made 12 first-class centuries and another 5 in limited overs cricket for a career aggregate across both formats of almost 11 000 runs.

His elder brother, Peter, also represented SA Schools and played at first-class level for Eastern Province B.

“On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his friends and his cricketing colleagues”, commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.
