Hick played 65Back on topic, Watson is undoubtedly the worst batsman to have played as many Tests as he did.
Woah that's rightHick played 65
Shane: Lee (his wife's name) hunny, I've retired so the selectors call me back like that other guy whoever he isAfter deciding to retire, he asked his wife to review the decision
Don't look back in anger Shane. Glorious career.
Shane ****ing Watson singing ****ing Oasis. Disgusting.
There are other guys who will bat, and who can hold a bat.(unless Smith gets 200 in each test.
Just on this, I reckon Watson needs to be compared to more serviceable allrounders rather than the big guns. Thinking guys from older days like Trevor Bailey and Slasher Mackay. I've been a critic of Watson, but the main reason is that he never really stood up and won us a test many times when it mattered. His actual output as an allrounder was never bad.Watson as a test player reminds me a lot of Jacob Oram. As his best world-class, injured a lot, generally reliable with the ball, often maligned unfairly in his home country.
Nah **** off, he's a number 3 through and through. Obviously he wasn't going to displace Ponting but iirc that was his domestic position and had the technique for it.Watto should have been a #6
When Clarke became captain his role also changed and started bowling more again. I also wonder if he kept at opening or batting at 3 as a specialist with no considerations at all to being a bowler.Averaged 40ish as an opener. In 09/10 when he and Katich were opening he was making consistent runs at a decent average. Then when we dropped him down to 3 so Ponting could drop down to 4, he lost that edge,
Would've been interesting to note what would've happened if he'd been kept as an opener from 09/10 until now...
His returns as an opener were already trending down if I remember correctly before he was moved. I think he had a brief purple patch when he was recalled to open and then reverted to his mean. He would have got his pads in the way or looked back at the slips with an 'Aww No' just as much opening as batting lower.Averaged 40ish as an opener. I've generally thought that his main problem was not his batting position but his injury situation. When he was genuinely solid for those few years (2009-2011 if memory serves) that was also a time where he didn't miss much if any cricket due to injuries. From when NZ/India toured onward though he's constantly missed significant amounts of cricket and never had a truly consistent run in the side (which is probably why he's never actually been dropped either).Averaged 40ish as an opener. He obviously didnt have the technique for it though, which is why he averaged 30.Nah **** off, he's a number 3 through and through. Obviously he wasn't going to displace Ponting but iirc that was his domestic position and had the technique for it.
