Haha yeah I agree.

If anyone had said last week "we should buy Anthony Martial for £36m" they'd have been laughed off the internet. No one was even calling him "one of the hottest young strikers". What's changed? The optimism basically amounts to "well if United think he's worth that much then maybe he is", as if there's ever been the slightest shred of evidence to suggest United know what they're doing post-Fergie.

De Gea is an even bigger shambles. We were getting £27m plus arguably the best replacement possible. Now we'll get nothing, it's hard to see De Gea being anywhere near his best for the last year after the **** the clubs have contrived to put him through, and RM won't sell us Navas in the next window. It's a shambles. There's no point pretending otherwise.

And it's just laughable that the same people who were saying "Arsenal are definite challengers this year" are, after 4 matches, saying "there's no hope for them, write them off" (not actually accusing anyone in here of doing that ftr, I'm thinking mainly of those idiots who work for the BBC).

I didn't for a moment actually believe Arsenal were, or are, in with a shout of winning the thing (would love to be proved wrong, of course), but the fact that these supposed "experts" are changing their tune in such a reactionary fashion just shows how superficial and crap their "expertise" is. They could at least have the decency to stick to their convictions.

We're seriously the only club in the world who's fans care about value for money. We've been trained well by Wenger and Gazidis.

Neither was I but I didn't expect to see no activity whatsoever.

That's not the point. Fans do care about clubs pissing their money up the wall on absolute ****e. One suspects that this will become even more true as FFP comes into play a bit more. Clubs that have, nearly literally, endless finances are a poor example to use in this regard, because they are operating under entirely different circumstances to everyone else.

Arsene Wenger says FFP 'is gone' and admits Arsenal can't compete with Chelsea and Manchester City - Mirror Online

I think it's fair enough to be disappointed you haven't won a title in over a decade. But it's not just Fergie who knocked Liverpool off their perch. Arsenal have done it too, under Wenger. Without him you wouldn't even be part of the fabled big four. City and Chelsea are a completely different animal.

Get rid of Wenger and at best you've got United under LVG. At worst you become Liverpool.

So, the decision not to buy anyone is either brave or foolhardy. A club/manager that won’t spend for the sake of spending is admirable in some ways, especially when the pressure is on as it was during the opening part of this season. However, you can also ask question as to whether or not that club has done everything it can to find players who can improve the team. The idea that there was nobody out there who could give us something extra seems fanciful, so maybe there are questions to be asked there.

From arseblog, basically sums up my agita.

Ah yes, the good old "world class players probably grow on trees" argument once again.
