They're doing a great job, easily my 2 favourite things about the product at the moment. New Day have done such a good job turning their act around, and proved that even if you get lumbered with a dodgy gimmick, if you're talented enough you'll succeed, and there's no doubting the talent of Big E, Kofi and Woods. Hope they keep them together for a while, they're so, so good. Can't wait to see how the feud plays out with the Dudley's.The New Day and Owens seem to be basically ignoring the whole "ignore the crowd/don't interact with the crowd" thing that most of the superstars seem to have to adhere to, and oh my god they're funny and over and entertaining . (Cesaro and his section applies too, I guess)
(also when you look at old CM Punk stuff, he seems to be breaking these little rules all over the place)
The gimmick was never a problem. The fact that they were pushed as faces was the issue. They're doing a great job, easily my 2 favourite things about the product at the moment. Well, technically it was. They played their gimmick so straight faced and boring that it just sucked enormous balls. After going heel, they've turned the volume upto 11 which is why it's worked. For some reason, being a face in WWE in this era means your gimmick needs to be devoid of personality and charisma. The gimmick was never a problem. Yeah, fair enough I guess. And yeah, this is a pretty severe problem with characters who start of as faces, and it has been for as long as I can really remember tbh. Pretty much all of the top WWE guys over the last twenty years have started off as heels, including those who wrestled most of their careers as faces.Well, technically it was. They wanted to be heel from the start but it was never the plan.mthey just did the best with what they had been given. No idea if the plan was always to turn them heel (assume not) but will say they wouldn't have been as successful had they always been heel. What made them click with the current gimmick was the way they used the fact they were getting heat as good guys.
