Wasim is probably the pick of old ball bowlers there, I really see your point, but the question as I see it, pick the opening bowlers. The best two include Wasim

Ambrose and Wasim opening bowlers for my team of the 90s

Donald as first change.

McG to open the bowling in the 00s

Nasty that one of Ambrose, Wasim, Donald and McGrath will be left out from the final XI. And spare a thought for Pollock (who was quietly amassing awesome stats) and Waqar (who for that brief period was probably the best ever).

Going with Ambrose and Donald. My excuses:

- Wasim will be better suited for first change with the old ball
- McGrath is a noughties cricketer

Pathetic excuse tbh

Bowling first change has nothing to do with bowling with the old ball. Wasim is the master of any kind of swing, with new and old ball. He should open the bowling, and should also bowl with the old ball when it reverses. What makes you think that first-change bowlers are same as old ball bowlers (/new ball bowlers are less likely to bowl with the old ball)?

I thought about that; Wasim always opened with good results. But still went with those choices. Bite me.

And well Donald did bowl plenty as a first change in ODIs... it is incredibly tough to choose who should get the first spell in a test between him and Wasim, both bring their own qualities. What a mayhem of a bowling attack anyway, fkin nineties innit!

Donald will be fine as first-change. Give the new ball to the sultan of swing.

guys come on when youre discussing 5-6 bowlers who all averaged around 20-22 over many matches you look stupid calling other people out for having different opinions. it comes down to personal preference at this point

any of donald/akram/mcgrath/ambrose/waqar and even pollock imo is an acceptable fast bowling combination

you don't want an acceptable combo, you want the ultimate combo

Who is being hostile? Even if you've missed the obvious light-hearted banter, have you actually read through the thread and tried to understand the points raised?
