Tbf if Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra are your Test spinners then there's an obvious dearth of spinners in the domestic game.

Whatever it takes!!!
didn't watch cricket at all in 99

08 was ****ing rough but i was more angry than sad.

yeah, Sydney was more of a travesty.. This here is just incompetence.. Like the other game in RSA when Steyn bopped Shami over his head... Or when Baz and Watling decided to **** us from a winning position. But this is not that bad mainly because I hope it gets us to rethink DRS and Nohit and Bhajji out of the side.. I know MI and the Ambanis and Pawar have too much stroke for the latter to happen but one can always hope...

and we've actually chased 300 plus twice in the fourth innings...wow what is this world coming to

Its coz you got guns like Younis and Misbah and Azhar in the side... we got spuds like Nohit.

TBH, I am just overreacting. These kids are talented and this is their second season without SAchin and first full series without Dhoni. Rather inexperienced side, who went to pieces when their plans were ****ed with by some amazingly bold and unforeseen aggressive batting.. And with the bat, these guys just don't have the confidence against proper spin. Most of our young batsmen are like the young Aussie batsmen.. Bold and aggressive and like the ball coming on to the bat. But play with hard hands way too much to be successful consistently against top class spin and swing bowling in conditions that aid those...

Good man. Bit late now though.

Hey I was with you the whole time... Chk my posts yesterday night and today morning.. I Only posted about the next test in relation to the 4 or 5 bowler debate? How is that assuming that this test was won? Win/lose/draw this test, that would have been a decision to make before the next test...

These are good points. I think this loss will hurt more because of the way the match slipped out of India's hands, but looked at with proper perspective, it is not that bad. Yes I agree that the younger breed of Indian batsmen seem to be better at playing pace (great record in Australia and South Africa already) rather than spin. I wonder if it has something to do with the emphasis that was placed on having the skillset and technique to perform well in these conditions where India (except Tendulkar) struggled traditionally which in turn overlooked their traditional area of strength which is playing spin.

This is not the first time this has happened in the last 2 years. Moeen Ali and Lyon took way more wickets against India then they should have.

How will the pitch be for the 2nd test?
Make an educated guess, won't be a dustbowl after seeing what Ashwin had done to SL batting. If it's a green track I won't be surprised, especially if Dushmantha Chameera is fully fit.

Manjrekar and Arnold were talking about the pitch having turn but a bit more pace and bounce. I hope Prasad gets some help. Would like to see him bowl well.

i'd like to propose that this crop of indian batsmenn are better players of pace than spin

first time ever? all the knocks that stand out to me were against pace bowlers home and away.
Yeah I think this is pretty clear now.

The pitches in SL have been outstanding for test cricket during the last decade (generally speaking). A far cry from the 90s

And just saw some of the highlights. Those catches, ****ing hell. If you can pluck so many chances out of the air like that you will back yourself to win many many games. Can't remember when was the last time i saw so many outstanding catches in one innings

Also can't believe some of the posting, particularly from Contra about the batting. India could literally have crawled at 1 run per over and won with a session to spare tomorrow.

No wonder teams barely win away from home any more, modern batsmen seem utterly incapable of coming up with, never mind try a plan B when their plan A of 'plonk the foot down and have a mow #intent' doesn't come off.
Clearly someone didn't actually watch the game and is just basing his opinions off looking at the scorecard. In case you didn't notice India did try to crawl @ 1 per over which is exactly why they lost.

Kohli sums up what I've been trying to say the whole time.

Contra isn't wrong tbf. Of course in the long run we need to improve and be able to crawl to such a target in order to minimize risk, but the way our guys play spin at the moment with such hard hands, it does seem like a better option to be a bit more aggressive and reap the rewards later when the field invariably opens up for easier singles.

If India ever change there mind about using DRS everyone should refuse to use it against them, **** them.
