I think this will be the first time under Lehmann that we havent picked an all-rounder. A really surprising decision. Didnt see it coming

I don''t know, it's actually very seldom that Australia bowl first, and while the wicket looks fresh, it's hardly up there with the greenest we've seen for sometimes. Add to that the nightmare Aussies are still having today over Ponting's decision to bowl first in Edgbaston in '05.
Even if it's not the greenest pitch ever, it's very difficult to see how it could be worse for batting on day 2 than day 1. Especially since it's overcast this morning and forecast to be sunny tomorrow.

Also they're coming off the back of a disastrous bat-first last week. If they weren't going to bowl today, they never will.

Meanwhile we're seeing Smashing Pumpkins remixed with David Lloyd commentary. My teenage years are ruined.

FTR in the 2013 Ashes Clarke moved from 5 to 4 for the Old Trafford test and scored a big century.

I personally wouldn't have dropped Watto and said that at the time. I did think that Mitch should replace him eventually I questioned whether the pressure cooker of the ashes was the right place for a green horn. Mitchell will be back and is part of Australia's future. Wouldn't be surprised to see him play against us.

Ideally you want an all rounder in there somewhere but I guess they just decided they didn't have a test standard one atm.

I am very surprised by that. Especially given how Starc and Hazlewood have been feast or famine so far. They get it wrong and it a long way back for them in the field and Lyon will be under serious pressure to keep it tight.

Just mentioning this now in case it happens, but I have this feeling we will be 281/4 at stumps.

I quite like this Marsh in Marsh out selection. It would be very typical for one of our bowlers to go down injured this match since we aren't playing the all-rounder.

James Faulkner or Glenn Maxwell should be the all-rounder, depending on conditions.
Would you be happy with either of them at 6? Or are you suggesting the keeper goes to 6 and they go to 7.

I would be think either Maxwell or faulkner would make a very decent fist of 7
