Whatever it takes!!!
EDIT: ****.. just realized cannot pick B J Watling as my search was limited to games as designated wicket keeper.. And BJ has apparently played 8 games as a specialist bat...

Sarfraz Ahmed, FTW...

Kevin Pietersen - 8181 runs @ 47
Ian Botham (3) - 5200 runs @ 34, 383 wkts @ 28
Sarfraz Ahmed (wk) - 1157 runs @ 50
Jim Laker (5) - 676 runs @ 14, 193 wkts @ 21
Brian Statham (2) - 675 runs @ 11, 252 wkts @ 25
William Johnston (4) - 273 runs @ 11, 160 wkts @ 24

George Ulyett (3) - 949 runs @ 24, 50 wkts @ 20 = 12th Man

Think it is a very well balanced side... Not Enough Lefties is the only problem I can notice.. Otherwise we have a lovely balance with an ATG opener and another who is a left hander with a good record in all conditions and a guy who scores in weird areas which will disrupt the bowling combination always... At #3 is another ATG, a bit of a stonewalling type of batsman but who will perfectly complement the aggressors batting from Nos. 4 through 7... Macartney was the original Sehwag who always believed in hitting the ball to the boundary and defending only if that was not possible at all... His left arm spin will be a very good additional advantage for the side in conditions where the 5 main bowlers will be stretched. KP, to me, is an ATG or at least a player who has played MANY ATG knocks and he will smash the tired bowling attacks for fun... An ATG allrounder in Beefy Botham at 6 who will bat and bowl entertainingly and be a matchwinner for the side in both departments. Sarfraz is still young in the game but has already shown that he can bat enterprisingly in most conditions and is a very very tidy keeper given the variety of bowlers he will need to keep to in this side. The bowling attack will be led by 3 ATGs = Statham and McGrath with the new ball and Laker as the spinner. They will have the ATG allrounder Botham and Bill Johnston with his left arm fast medium and occasional left arm orthodox spin from both Johnston and Macartney backing them up... Barrington and Katich will provide leg spin of both left arm and right arm variety when needed as well. McGrath and Statham is one of the dream opening bowling combinations and with the great Laker and the rest of the bowling attack to back them up, this is a side that will take 20 wickets in almost all conditions..

REally good side, bags... You can add in Aravinda as your 7th bowler.. May not be the best side in SC conditions but everywhere else, that would be a damn hard side to beat...

WalkingWicket

State 12th Man
OK, I'm in a real rush, so don't have time for proper research. I'll take WG Grace, to be a 12th man, or to slot in instead of Vaas/McCullum on a spinning pitch.

Ah, was hoping to nab Grace.

So many good options, but given many say he was one of the greatest ever, I'll take Ranji

Eggs Benedict XI

Ranjitsinhji/Trevor Goddard (6)
Graeme Smith
Ranjitsinhji/ Root
Sachin Tendulkar
Everton Weekes
AB de Villiers +
Chris Cairns (5)
Richard Hadlee (1)
Johnny Briggs (4)
Jason Gillespie (3)
Alec Bedser (2)

Still deciding whether to maintain South African spin all-rounder Trevor Goddard, a specialist opener which would make the batting line-up insanely deep, or to open with Ranji & drop Root or great 19th century spinner Johnny Briggs .. with over 100 wickets @ 17.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If Lawry gets out early and Sehwag and Lara are in form, that would be some sight, their partnership.. :)

Really good side Nufan...

I would like to see it too although Lawry doesn't necessarily have to get out early!

Yeah great side Nufan, although the Big ship must've been close to the starting XI?
Oh yeah he was very close. It would be interesting to see whether more people rate Armstrong or Flintoff more? I guess the ship is the better bat while Andy is the better bowler.

I enjoyed the draft, well done all.
