Warney:
"Well McCullums just got to try something here. This partnership has been unbroken for 5 overs and I'm getting bored....and is looking dangerous, the bowlers need to mix it up, try a bouncer, a yorker - they need every ball to be a real corker. Geez I'm a genius."

Australians bowling at 136 to 143 kph - fast bowlers.
NZers bowling at 136 to 143 kph - military medium, half rat power, couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding plodders.

This will be the ultimate:

Shane Warne:

"I think that David Warner needs to take a leaf out of the book of the NZ openers. They are busy and make things happen. Sometimes he is too busy. You must be proactive and make things happen like the New Zealanders do"

Mark Nicholas:

"But Shane David Warner is certainly proactive"

Shane Warne:

"But there is busy and then there is busy. Like Tom Latham with those straight drives we saw yesterday".

"Of course it's all turned around for the Kiwi's since John Buchanan put some proper structures in place over there, don't you agree Shane?"

Chappell on sledging:

I'm surprised more batsmen don't object to the inane chatter that regularly occurs in the guise of gamesmanship. And if I hear one more player, coach or official say this chatter is "part of the game", I'll lose my lunch.

...
I don't have any problem with gamesmanship. This is the thoughtful and often humorous use of wit to entice an unsuspecting player into losing his concentration. When bowling into the footmarks to Sourav Ganguly from round the wicket, Shane Warne provided a classic example of gamesmanship. After Ganguly had let a couple of balls go, Warne remarked; "Hey mate, the crowd didn't pay their money to watch you let balls go. They came here to see this little bloke [pointing to Sachin Tendulkar at the non-striker's end] play shots."

If a batsman is silly enough to fall for such a ploy then more fool him. Gamesmanship has been part of cricket since its inception and it's also been responsible for a lot of the humour that adds colour to the descriptions of the contest. There's a big difference between gamesmanship and personal abuse, or the constant inane chatter fielders use to try to distract batsmen.

...

Warner is a recidivist when it comes to agitation on the cricket field but he’s far from the only guilty player and the administrators deserve as much blame as the cricketers for the escalation in confrontations. A major concern with on-field misbehaviour is the administrators lack of understanding of the simple premise, the more you allow players to say on the field, the more likely it is something personal will be said. If such a comment is uttered at the wrong moment then there’ll be trouble.

Chappell is quite anti sledging, if I recall correctly.
He likes gamesmanship, not abuse or so he has written of late.

So the funny ones (or distracting ones), not the yelling of threats of physical pain or a punch up.

He liked Warne sledges, not Warner antics. Lillee was under his watch, so maybe Lillee was not so bad.

The funny sledges add colour to the game, so quick witted some of them.
It's the nastiness, the ugliness, the winning without grace that people hate. Winning at all costs excuses cheating as well.
Additional to Warner, Faulkner is another feral, the way he thrusts his body at people, shoulders hunched, teeth bared. The feralness of some of the Aussies is distasteful, that duelling banjos stuff.

We'll be treated to the Slater, Healey, Tubby clown show as well.
Can you imagine the 3 of them getting on the turps with Nicholas. I just imagine him in tears in the corner of the room as the others get progressively more boozed.

I really rate Faulkner as a player and enjoy watching him play cricket. I hope that he does not go too feral like Warner has.

He's certainly a very entertaining player to watch. His teeth do suggest the presence of some horse DNA somewhere in his lineage.

I find Slater genuinely funny.

He can be quite cutting and accurate in his cricket analysis while causing a laughing of the house down. Tubby, well that's another story altogether.

It's the trope of the Channel 9 coverage that Healy will help a struggling keeper over the course of the summer. We'll be treated to some footage of Healey hard at work, demonstrating glovemanship and body movement to the hapless protege. Then some footage of the master at work back in the day, keeping to Warney.

Also some footage of Slats taking to some attack - the next ball he's clean bowled! Cue laughter!

Meanwhile a real live test continues obliviously in the background.
