That's why the heel turn didn't work from a money point of view, but from a smark point of view he was awesome to watch. His mic work was great.
Yeah people just didn't want to boo him. It's pretty amazing that since his face turn vs Bret, Austin has pretty much been the most beloved guy in WWE history. Throughout the entire span, from initial face turn to his reign as top face, to his heel turn, to his retirement, and even now with his podcast (where almost everyone prefers him to guys like y2j and ross), he's almost universally liked. Not once has the crowd turned on him. Atleast to my memory.

Went back and looked through the top ten reactions again, and what do you know:

#10 CM Punk at MITB 2011 - Chicago
#9 Rock returns in 2011 - Anaheim
#8 HHH returns in 2002 - MSG
#7 Undertaker Judgement Day 2000 - Louisville
#6 Cena debut on Raw - St. Louis
#5 Bulldog beating Bret - London
#4 Jericho debut - Chicago
#3 Ziggler cash-in - post-WM
#2 Brock - post-WM
#1 Austin assisting Mankind - Worcester

I remember there was a Smackdown in Edmonton where Benoit faced Austin for the WWF title. Probably the hottest I have ever seen a Smackdown crowd. For obvs reasons that's not on the list, but still.

Heel Austin 2001 one of my favourite ever characters. I think he was brilliant.

Anyway, basically he said he turned heel because he enjoyed doing it and hadn't done it for ages, but there is a time and a place for a heel turn and he was far too hot at the time . When you think that The Rock was going away then, they really did just lose their two biggest babyfaces within the space of 24 hours. Hunter then didn't turn face which by some accounts was also part of the plan. They therefore had Taker, and that's it.

I loved the heel turn but they probably did burn a bunch of money by doing it.
I dunno, I reckon it would have worked if Benoit hadn't got injured tbh. Both he and Jericho were getting more and more over at that point, and would have been capable of carrying the company through the few months the Rock was away, but with HHH and Benoit both out that rather put paid to that. Bad luck really. A really interesting "what would have been if..." scenario to think over actually.

What do you all think about the potential of Ziggler not re-signing? Reports came out last week that he'd re-signed, but he's then come out and said he hasn't signed yet and is considering his options. Started a while back when Meltzer reported that he wanted to leave and was considering offers from Lucha and TNA. I think it's very unlikely he leaves, but would be interesting. I think there's some good matches over in Lucha for him! Puma vs Ziggler would be epic.

Also, what do you all think about Cesaro? There's some IWC movement that's building that's focused on getting him a push, but personally I'm not really behind it. I like Cesaro's matches, he's fantastic in the ring, has been for years, but he's never going to be a top WWE star. He doesn't connect with the crowd, has no character, and there's no way he'd sell PPV's, or garner big TV ratings. There's a reason none of his pushes have gone anywhere. He's similar to Demetrious Johnson in the UFC for me. Fantastic to watch, great athlete, but just can't seem to connect with the audience and get over as a star.

His character doesn't connect. His matches do, he has great matches, but outside of Cesaro the wrestler, he isn't getting over. None of the mainstream audience in to see what's next for Cesaro, and no matter how good his matches are, he's never going to get over to the level that the IWC Smarks think he should.

Um, he's kind of been getting really strong reactions for 18 months now...but ok.

that's from steen wolf (named after kevin obv). gonna watch threemendous iii next. angelico is gonna be on their next show!!
the headline to this is maybe the most insane thing i've ever seen. it's not on yt/daily motion etc so if you want to see it you'll probably have to pay for it (link) but man it's totally worth the 15 bucks or whatever i've ended up paying for it. sample spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV1wVZ1ZFnM

also ownes is on commentary for the match although his only real commentary line is "matt jackson refuses to stop playing guitar". everything else is basically screaming and no don't do that please let this end. it's amazing.

I would expect so. That's what happens with all of the other streamed content is it not?

Yeah me too, but one suspects he's going to have his ass absolutely handed to him in this one. And probably rightly so tbh. A comedy(ish) heel character has no business making Lesnar look even slightly exerted.
