Come on, don't jump the gun. You talking about Dhoni having Srini to protect him make it seem like he was a liability for Indian cricket when the opposite is actually true. Of course he might not be the animal that he once was. I say give the guy atleast enough time for him to get his average below 50, then maybe you can whack him. Hmm, "Whack", that's a nice word, I like that.
I assume this post is referring to me? I have nothing against Dhoni when it comes to the ODI team. I was just speculating on how the dynamics of the new team running the BCCI might affect his standing within the team.

I always found the whole preparing "we must prepare for the next WC" thing a bit silly, there's just no way you can completely plan for one tournament 4 years down the line. Right now the only thing the Indian team needs to do is field their best 11 and try to win as many matches as possible.

Re Raina, I don't rate him weldone. He has a fair record in England but any one who watches knows he can't really bat that well. His average is 31 abroad over all and 38 at home. In this there are lots of not outs. An overall career average of 36. Batting so low, you would think that he would average more really. Even under Dhoni, when he has had his best run, he averages just 34 abroad which includes 8 not outs in 50 or so games. Just not good enough for me.
Raina is a good example of an ODI player who's stats you can't take at face value. I've lost count of the number of times he's had to come in and his only choice was to go after the bowling. Seems a bit odd to criticise a player who just scored 40 anyways.

I think Rahane had an uncharacteristically bad day yesterday - I think he was 1 off 15 balls at one point. Raina is still a decent player to have around but I think Dhoni and Jadeja are definitely underperforming. Dhoni particularly - in most other countries there would be talk of him being past it and when he should be handing the reins to Virat. Unfortunately, Dhoni seems to be under no pressure and seems to be 'untouchable' in the team. I'm not advocating to dump him but he should feel some heat - and he should up his batting.

Sanju Samson, anyone?

Samson doesn't have numbers backing him atm. Karnataka top order is where I'd be looking. Agarwal, Uthappa, Nair etc.

Any changes for the next ODI?

Umesh was dealt with rather easily. Maybe he should be replaced with Sir Stuart Binny, the Bangladeshi-slayer. Jokes aside, his seamers could probably do the trick here.

And maybe give Axar a go in place of Jadeja.

Rahane needs to bat Top 3 in ODIs. Not good enough for the middle order yet.

You could argue that persisting with him could see him be good enough when 2019 rolls around tho

Rahane is an overrated ODI batsman.. One greentop ton vs Eng in a test and all of a sudden his **** don't stink for some.

Seriously though 55 ODIs is enough to judge him. And no he hasn't shown enough to replace Dhawan, Rohit or Virat at the top.
