***Official*** Australia in the West Indies 2015

Don't see how we can conclude that Starc is now better than Johnson in test matches on the basis of the small difference against a piss-poor WI top order in 2 matches. Come on!
Late in swing at high 140's tend to be better than not so much swing at high 130's you know regardless of the line up.

I definitely see it as MJ v Starc. Harris writes his own ticket and Haze simply is going from strength to strength and will be the guy we build an attack around for years no matter who else is available.

Very interesting that Junior is talking up Starc and it's obvious he's had a lot of support from the selectors even when his red ball performances perhaps didn't warrant it. It could be a real pointer that Mitch has to show something more than he has so far this tour to be a lock. But like I said I'm not gonna write the prick off after what he's shown since his recall. He was immense in the UAE on roads. Been below his best since then, but I reckon the chance to prove himself in England might get him up.

Of course an injury throws everything wide open, but I don't see Starc and Johnson playing together in the Ashes if everyone's fit.

inb4 Howsie says Boult.
Ha, tbh I'd take Starc over Boult everyday of the week in ODI's. Whole different matter in test cricket though, Boult so far ahead it isn't even funny. Dumb comment from a selector though, especially since it isn't even close to being true.

Have any of the West Indian commentators complained about Chanderpaul being dropped as this series went on? Looking at the lad who picked up a pair here on debut how in the world did he manage selection?

They've completely ignored him from what i've seen.

Better to live in ignorance.

mj needs to get his pace up again. mj now reminds me a bit of dizzy prior to the 05 ashes. anyone who saw him bowl in nz few months back knew his best days were behind him but could not drop him be course he was immense in India 12 months ago and hadn't bowled badly enough since to warrant a dropping. Thankfully for australia there are better blokes than shaun tait waiting in the bench now

I didn't follow this match yesterday so there might be a good reason for the declaration, but on the face of it it seems a bit arrogant if not disrespectful.

Aussies just trying to get an extra day off work. People pull a sickies on a Friday all the time to get a long weekend.

The only reason that makes sense is Clarke putting a lot of weight into the "bowl a handful of overs just before stumps" thing.

Yeah, exactly this. 390 vs 450 as a target on this pitch really won't change much, so I guess making the batsmen start from scratch twice, and allowing the bowlers two cracks with the new ball while fresh, outweighs the extra runs Australia could have posted.

Doesn't outweigh the extra batting practice, though.

I don't really think it does, but obviously a lot of people do care about that. Plus 8 overs was perfect for the short spells Clarke's loves.

He could have done the same just before lunch today and had extra batting. Sure it's not the same as having batsman worrying overnight but lunch is not bad. Plus with how they batted 1st innings they were probably worried anyway.

**** Australia and their stream of awesome fast bowlers. Hazelwood is so damn good it isn't even funny. Just 24 too :(
the **** has already taken more five wicket hauls for Australia than he did in 7 seasons at NSW

(also me saying 7 seasons is me playing loose with the facts)

My beef with the whole declaration thing is that if they had the declaration in mind they should have started the hitting out an hour or so earlier than they actually did.had 8 wickets in hand
