It is sort of a weird rule. You've got to have a rule like that in place but it feels immensely silly for a wicket to be disallowed for such a tiny technicality.

No it's not. All wickets are tiny technicalities then. Every rule in sport is based on some sort of arbitrary limit.

Not really. Hitting the stumps with the ball is pretty cut and dry, it's a clear object of the game. Same for getting a batsman caught, or similar.

Obviously you need to have a front foot no ball rule but there have been a wide variety of interpretations over time and it's only recently that every dismissal has been checked for a possible no ball the umpire might have missed. Not sure that not checking is really a better system of course, it's just an unsatisfying system that takes away from the immediate impact of the contest between bat and ball which ideally should be the centrepiece of the sport.

Clarke deliberately trying to hit the Windies off their length, one suspects. Roach is already off so he doesn't need to.

The difference in the state of the game compared to the moment of the Clarke letoff is crazy. Feels fairly even now,

Why is this WI commentator talking about a free hit? This isn't a 1 day match. Roach overstepped and it cost his team a wicket. Runs are irrelevant.

This WI team reminds me of some of the club sides I've played for. The ones where you find out the morning of the match that 3 of the team were on the piss last night and can't play. So your down an opening bowler, your best spinner and a batter who can bowl a bit. So now your team balance is off. Your gun opening bowler gets 2 wickets early to have you in it but deep down you know your ****ed. The replacement opening bowler is poor and the other 2 guys are ok but how will you get wickets? Even worse how do you bowl 90 without a 5th bowling option without wrecking your gun bowler?
