I said 'they' ( the McHesson's) don't seem to, remembering of course he was in the test mix 2 years back. I'm a Munro fan, especially in the short forms.

So Anderson out, Ronchi likely to debut.

Possibly not a huge loss in terms of batting with Watling set to play at no.6. But the bowling is a worry. The three quicks were overbowled, and will be again if Craig doesn't bounce back. Need someone to fill in all those overs in-between. KW? Guptill?

While Ronchi doesn't get a lot of backing on this forum, this test could be a good indicator of whether he should be persisted with in the understudy role.

I think Anderson being out puts Craig's spot under more scrutiny. There's not much point in playing five seamers, but now that the fifth bowler is Kane Williamson there could be a fair argument for playing Bracewell or Wagner instead of Craig, depending on what the pitch looks like.

Ya, but Craig's batting might be useful in Anderson's absence.

Yeah agreed, if it looks like there is something in it for the seamers, Bracewell. Flat or spin friendly? Wagner.

Well good. The team could have used a bit more desperation at Lord's.

Would stick by Craig despite the temptation to bring in Wagner but boy is it important he gets it right, Southee and Boult really need the load to be shared around. Those two have been playing non-stop cricket since October-November (including the last edition of the Champions League) and Southee at least might be feeling the effects of it.

Guessing this marks the first time since the 2013 England series that NZ go into a test without an allrounder at no 6. Feels quite unfamiliar not having either Neesham or Anderson available, a sign they've been very good additions to the side if not indispensable.
