The three pacers for Australia for 1st test?

Australia have an abundant of riches in the fast bowling department at the moment and its going to be difficult decision the three they start with come the first morning at Cardiff. You'd have to assume Lyon will play.

My hunch is they will go with Johnson, Harris and Siddle. The latter for extra control. In my opinion, I don't think that's the right choice. I think Starc has to play. I think Harris is capable of providing control on top of being a strike bowler and Siddle is no longer as good as he was two-three years back. I would even play Hazlewood ahead of Siddle. In saying that I have to admit I like watching Siddle bowl, but ever since he went on the veggie diet he has lost pace and aggression.

I can only assume you haven't watched much cricket in Australia, or you'd know that this bloke is both incumbent and favourite to be the 3rd seamer for the Ashes and beyond.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Harris
Johnson
Hazelwood

secretly want Johnson to not play so Starc can bowl in English conditions

But Starc looked so much more dangerous in the WC than Hazlewood. Hazlewood was good without looking highly dangerous. Johnson started off slowly but came good in the latter stages. I think Starc would provide an all out attack while Hazlewood provides greater balance to the attack. I think it could well come down to the lead up games to the first test who takes the third spot. I think Shane Watson will play as the allrounder.

atm it's obviously Johnson, Harris, Hazlewood with Starc/Siddle as back ups, but things could change by the first ashes test

Not sure if you've noticed but the Ashes are Tests, and the WC was one dayers.

For the WI we'll see Johnson, Hazlewood and Starc most likely. With the worst performed of the three being jettisoned for Harris.

Yea it's basically a shoot-out between Haze, Starc and Siddle for the third quick's spot, and Haze is the man in possession.

Use of the word 'pacer' and using ODI form as a guide for Test cricket success -- I feel my cricket snob-o-meter rising quickly.

Will be Harris Johnson and Hazel, with Starc to play at least one Test if Rhino can't play all 5. When you're in a position to not play Starc, and you still have Pattinson, Cummins behind him, that's a fair spot to be in.

Why is Hazlewood a shoo-in? Surely Johnson, Starc and Harris are the three best fast bowlers? I'd back Starc after his Australian summer..

I refer you back to Spark:

So, umm, yeah. Starc with a white ball >>>>> Starc with a red ball. He seems to be improving, sure, but Haze is both a better Test bowler at present, and a better fit for the third seamer role.

Starc was reasonable in the last couple of Tests he played in England iirc. Much prefer the stability that Haze would provide though.

He's also the mostly likely pick to lead the attack when Harris and Johnson are gone, get every chance to play from now on for that reason alone. It may happen quickly too, if Harris breaks down and Johnson drops away, by next series the make-up of the attack could be very, very different.

Whatever it takes!!!
Damn you Aussies and your fast bowling riches... You get to discuss Starc Vs Haze Vs Pattinson Vs Cummins etc... We get to discuss Ishant Vs Umesh Vs Varun... as our second seamer, FFS.. :@ :(
