I think any reference to on field behaviour would be sour grapes and take away the graciousness of being a good loser. Australia played the match in the right spirit and their behaviour was exemplary, I know that there will be a few disgruntled posters who find it difficult to deal with Australia winning their 5th WC and as usual will look to discredit them by using unsubstantiated or unmeasurable accusations.
LOL.

Right spirit as defined by an Australian cricketer is one thing, but Right spirit as defined by the civilised world is something else.
Look it is a non issue - the Aussies sledged. Who cares. They have done it since forever, and on the day of the second coming they will still be sledging and still no one will care.
People rooted against the Australian cricket team because they are sledgers and that doesn't seem to worry the Australian cricket team. Nor should it. They aren't there to be liked they are there to win. Good luck to them.
At the end of the day Australian cricketers are extremely likeable chaps off the field and it is tough to stay mad at them long anyway. We had a bbq once with Craig McDermott present and he won over a group of 150 kiwis within ten minutes due to his modesty and self awareness "Yeah I am the guy who used to give you blokes a gobfull" was his opening line and we all laughed. Good bloke. All Australians cricketers I have met have been great off the field.
I just think they are terribly dysfunctional and downright rude as adults on the field. But Australians don't notice it because that is the way the game is played in Australia since kids were 6 years old apparently.

tl;dr version - yes the Australians sledged but my care factor is non existent. But this post did give me the opportunity to take a few pot shots at Australian cricketers antics on the field over the years and for that I am thankful to you. Pleasure doing business with you.

the intensity that the Aus teams show in the finals I believe you need to be a super human talent like AB to match them. Apart from a charged up AB led South Africa I don't see anyother side challenging Australia in a final at the G
Doubt SA would have either. AB is one player. There's very little logic to suggest SA would have got much closer to Australia based on their recent form, their previous game at the MCG, the occasion itself & the way Australia played on the day.

Plus it's perfectly fine to support the team and acknowledge that there are a bunch of wankers in there. I know I do.

Tbf, most Australians I know are happily concede their cricketers play like thugs on the field and are generally unapologetic about it and you have to respect their honestly in that regard. it's not like they try to wriggle out of it.

It's been the Australian way since I started watching cricket and I doubt it's likely to change anytime soon.

The internet is apparently where sarcasm comes to die. Amazing how many people took his comments seriously.
TNTs post ?
I just wanted to have a crack so any post that vaguely fitted the bill sufficed. I truly appreciated him posting that.

We're talking about the same ground in SA's case FFS, that's the difference, and I know deep down you already know that.

They scored less against India than we did against Aust, Australia didn't play again at Eden Park. Surely even cricrate factors the venues teams play at.

SA lost 3 times in the WC - 3 without even playing Australia.
The ground isn't the main reason I felt SA would do better, it's AB.

And yes, one man (especially one who is arguable the GOAT ODI batsman) can make a big difference in a one-off game.

I'm not really arguing with you - just wondering out loud really. Who else could've beaten Aus in the final? SA feels like the only potential team.

Best thing about this worldcup win is seing so many neutral hacks who wanted aus to lose (not the ones who wanted nz to win but just aus to lose becourse its aus) sucking it up big time . gloriousl

Now you see that there is heart rendering, the boys are devastated and now don't feel like they are worthy winners of the WC. Could we arrange to play the match again, this time without the sledging. You are all invited over to Had's place for tea and biscuits on Tuesday.

wow the comments here on the Blackcaps so called technical deficiencies is pretty pathetic. Remember NZ has 4million population. Rugby takes all our talent, many all blacks were also accomplished junior cricketers as well. We have who we have .
Yeah ok Guppy isn't the perfect batsman but all I can say is WHERES YOUR ODI DOUBLE CENTURY. So people talking about his 'technical deficiency' can just go and jump off a cliff.
Also Australia isn't all that perfect as shown at Eden Park. yeah tough team at the G in their own back yard.
Man, why so angry. Second comes right after first.

You can count on that every WC though. It's not a new phenomenon.

Sounds so beautiful doesn't it? :D

I really don't understand why my NZ friends are upset with me? i thought i gave a fair assessment of the game and detailed the reasons why they were such a shambles on the biggest stage of all. You win the toss and know that Aus have had no problem chasing throughout this whole competition...summed up by them still getting across the line against an inspired Pakistan side. Couple that with the the fact that NZ ALREADY BEAT THEM bowling first and what does Baz and Hesson do? bottle it!!.

I know the comments about Kane will irk some people too but the facts are the facts...the boy flopped in this world cup.

But like i said i do sympathise with my Kiwi friends because this was a big chance for their team to really prove they aren't just making up the numbers in this cricket pyramid we have but it just wasn't to be. I'm not taking it too personally though as i know the disappointment is still fresh and in time when the wounds are healed many might agree with me.

The thing with the Aussie cricket team is it's about half of them being twits on the field, not the whole lot, and the ones being dicks nowadays are usually the hackier, spuddier or over the hill ones skiing downhill on the back of their better team mates so it's all a bit weird really. Only exception is Warner.

Besides, they get their recompense either during their careers or later in life. Very few respect Warne on a personal level and when Hayden gobbed off before the game he was ridiculed. These guys don't have their cricket or an umpire to protect them anymore so when they try and treat real life like a cricket pitch. Hayden wasn't the big scary opener the other day, he was laughed at.

It's sad we might end up saying "good cricketer, poor man" about players from various countries (not just Australia) after their careers are over and they can't redeem themselves by scoring runs or taking wickets, but they bring it on themselves.

Haddin has chosen to live by the sword and he risks dying by the sword. There's that certain problem he has with not being a passenger with bat and gloves away from Australia. I'd be supportive and sympathetic as a neutral but if another **** like Broad mocks him all Ashes long well it's his own fault. Maybe NZ fans will get the chance to give Haddin a round of sarcastic applause (the team is too classy).

I can understand mouthing off in the heat of a game too. McCullum is a bigger man than me. If I had the talent and brains for cricket then between the low score and the send offs last night Australia might have copped the odd beamer in a big fat Phlegm flounce....so I can understand Haddin (for example) falling into being ungraceful. He's only human.

Long story short, McCullum during the rest of his career and in his retirement will command respect if he conducts himself as he has. If other players (not just Aussies) want to carry on like twits then they won't.

Anyway, I can't wait until Ian Chappell lives to see the day a bigger bully puts Australia on the deck then The Puppy leads Australia back to respectability with a slightly adjusted team ethos built around playing like happy little hyper-competitive but respectful kids. Chappell's life work ruined by the second best boringly named cricketer in the world.
