Nah, not sure I completely agree with this. What you say was very true of past NZ sides, but this one has that same attitude and spirit but combined with some truly great players.

This NZ team stacks up on paper very well against Australia today.
Oh wow.

Australia have good reason to win as well.

The two strongest emotional stories are in the final. Cricket can't lose.

What an exciting day ahead. I can't wait to sing the anthem in front of 98000 and get this final started! Thanks for all the support.

rugby is more popular in NZ but it's a rubbish sport that literally no other country really cares about so this is a bigger deal
Haha what a load of ****.

Rugby is arguably a bigger game globally than cricket. The only difference is you don't have 1.3 billion Indians fanatical about Rugby.

Not downplaying this WC final either, because NZ winning this would be the greatest sporting moment of my lifetime, but let's not pretend no countries care about Rugby...they do. Even forgetting NZ, SA & Aust...Ask the Welsh, the English, the French or dare I say it.. the Irish.

both of you are wrong.

more countries care about cricket than rugby and more strongly (rugby isn't league but it's not cricket either).

australia couldn't give less ****s about rugby outside private schools.

but wales and south africa are as fanatical as us.

and it's a decent sport.

Name them all.

I'm not talking about population (because of the no of Indians) I'm talking no. of countries.

Just looking back on the last 3 finals Australia won in '99,'03 & '07 & the common denominator is how they utterly bossed all 3 games throughout.

I don't see today being a blow-out like that.

Argentina as well.

Union is pretty ****ed in Australia though. Completely missed it after 2003

Predicting this match to be an all time Classic tbh. I guess its possible Australia could collapse badly though

cricket has five fanatical/national sport countries (india, pakistan, sri lanka, australia, bangladesh) and four second tier ones (NZ, south africa, windies and england). not sure about zimbabwe.

rugby has three fanatical countries and lots of second to third tier ones, unless you're really going to argue it's bigger than football in europe and latin america or cricket/AFL/league in aussie?

this isn't a knock on either sport, it's just how it has panned out. rugby has a harder time than cricket because it runs during the football season and nothing can take on football and win. it's still an awesome sport outside crappy tacky super rugby.

Those 3 games were played by Australian outfights with some ATG set of players though. It's not entirely surprisingly that they bossed those games.

Cricket is the national sport of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, WI, Sri Lanka, and surely close to the top in SA and Australia. Rugby is played in a lot of countries, but it's a niche sport and no-one else obsesses over it to the point we do. It means more to win at cricket since it's a genuine priority in a lot of countries.
