Not sure the ICC had anything to do with the rain. Who won the toss and elected to bat? Look at the forecast perhaps
Yeah this. Risk you take batting first, it wouldn't be very different if the rain came out of left-field. That was the reason I was surprised with AB's decision to bat, even though historically it's the right thing in a KO match.

I love how everybody just assumes South Africa were going to make 350. Batting first was always going to be a risk with this weather around, and de Villers took it. New Zealand still have a massive chase on their hands so if South Africa are good enough they will win.

I would prefer the 260 odd of 38 than Zinzan's calculation of 300 off 43. I don't think anyone can chase 300 down in 43.

Less overs is better because then you can just blast from ball one.
hendrix should be happy... now you get 5 over addl which you can see off which you any way have to due to the swing :)

Except the problem is Sherlock, rain wasn't in the forecast that early according to what we have been hearing from the comms.
Of course it was forecast. The forecast has been for showers on and off for about a week now, and on both days. It's only really changed to slightly less severe than first forecast as the weeks gone on.

I was following it carefully.

South Africa were in the middle of the batting powerplay and had 2 more overs left, but that has been cancelled. New Zealand will have 9 overs of mandatory powerplay and 4 overs batting powerplay. Three bowlers can bowl 9 overs while 2 can bowl 8. So, Boult and Vettori have finished. Southee, Henry and the other (Anderson/Williamson/Elliott) bowler have to bowl the 5 overs.
That makes quite a difference, to be fair.

Nah, this is a bogus argument. Living in a particular country with a lot more of the hero worship can make one all the more anti the hero worship.
Good point, actually. The hero worship here is so extreme that it makes us even more annoyed than people from other nations when it happens.

Hate rain breaks - completely changes the feel of the game and even aside from undesirable DL involvement, it's anyone's guess how well each side will come out after the break. Feeling pissed off from the rain and resisted posting on CW, which turns into a bicker-fest anyway with people behaving rather like the bored toddlers running around my legs right now not knowing what else to do with themselves (it's raining where I am too). Hendrix may have over-reached in saying NZ were still even or on top but ****, it was better than all the NZ-might-as-well-give-up comments that came flooding in the moment ABDV hit a few boundaries and SA poked their noses in front.

Anyway, sunshine please, especially for when we bat. Let's have some cricket.

This 43 over scenario has increased variance in the game, AB now has the chance to all but kill the game if he does 13/14 runs per over but NZ need one/two good overs and they would ahve severely limited SA.
