Thought they would add another 30 runs to the target or something if the game is reduced, don't they account for loss of batting momentum etc?

Have you ever noticed teams in ODI score heavier in the last 10-15 than first 10-15? Amazing really when you think about it.

Do you really think if SA knew they'd only get 38 overs they'd be at 216-3?
yeah, hendrix doing some twisted variation of gambhiring

I don't think I underestimated AB - but I wasn't expecting him to be so brazen so early. He has surpassed my expectations.

While we are killing time in this rain break I will comment that AB won the war of words before the game. I thought Brendon shouldn't have a given a "we are happy to be here" comment while walking out to the toss. Maybe it is a Kiwi thing to be modest - but the ABs don't talk like that. Still Brendon's contribution is yet to come. Every now and then the same thread gets bumped time after time "what is the greatest contribution a captain can make" - I have always posted and have always believed the biggest thing a captain can do to help his team win is to do what AB is doing right now. Actually turn up yourself and lead from the front. If you lay a goose egg as a captain no amount of tactical nous will make up for it. Brendon you said 'Dream big New Zealand" in the commercials. Pretty soon will be the innings of your lifetime. Please turn up and be the leader you were born to be.
AB's been trying to do an Imran (in captaincy) all through this world cup

OK both in 2007 Chappell-Hadlee series NZ has chased down 336 at Eden Park tyanks to a Ross taylor century and 340 at Hamilton thanks to a 170 run partner ship between Craig MacMillian and B-Mac for the 6th wicket. These games were both against Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson bowling. Can be done

Except, he has not. Every thing which every one does is not a chip from Imran Khan. Captaincy happened before him too.
I am not talking of any captaincy. I am talking of a particular type of captaincy i.e. bigging up your team even when they are down in the dumps and playing ****

haven't seen a ball or read the thread. when i read on cricinfo we dropped de villiers...

go away imzamam ul de villiers, you're not fair. the UAE could make the semis with that bloke in the team.

all our own fault though if we dropped three chances. not over yet but we've dug a very deep hole and our death bowling is our only real weakness. this might hurt a lot.

we can chase a high total because we get some filth but 250 in a semi is almost worth 300 in terms of pressure so chasing 300 is a bit grim and not a great position to start the second innings in. we have the batting to chase this down but it's going to be ****ing huge unless we can get wickets soon. looking at 350 here and even if we get some guaranteed pie overs this isn't a bowling attack you want to chase 350 against.

oh well. we'll see what happens and i'll cheer until the bitter end.

yes. Or if they had a few more, it wouldn't be much.

Faf didn't wall it just because he felt like it. He shut up shop because they could barely get bat on ball and if he hit out there was a significant risk of them being bowled out for bugger all.
