Started playing baseball (well softball actually) last year and holy **** the number of plays you can make when you pick up the ball just ****ed me in the head. I bat and field really well compared to everyone else who just started thanks to cricket but I desperately need people to tell me where to throw when I pick up the ball and a base coach for when I'm batting
Yeah, it's hard enough to figure out what's about to happen when you're watching, let alone playing.
One key difference I notice between baseball/softball and cricket on a semi-related note is that in baseball if you hit the ball you're compelled to run.

Imagine if that were the case in cricket. There would be a lot more run outs, and matches would end a hell of a lot more quickly.
That's a common rule in 'backyard' cricket. I hate it.

213 is towards the upper limits of the score that Pakistan were likely to get imo. I wouldn't rule Pakistan out here. They've got the 5 bowlers to keep the pressure on if they get a good start. Australia's whole tournament has been pretty stop start to this point and it's hard for batsman to get any momentum going when you aren't playing much.

Sad part is Pakistan could've easily gotten 250-260 if they batted more patiently.. ended up getting ****-all cos they wanted 300.

It's not bad in baseball though because you can bat multiple times in the same match so getting out isn't as big of a deal.

Meh. Each sport has its own quirks. I'm biased in which I think is a more entertaining sport. I'd honestly love to try playing cricket and I think I'd not be bad at it because of my softball background in terms of being at least somewhat competent at batting and fielding, but bowling is a totally foreign motion to me. Unfortunately, in my city (Phoenix, Arizona) the only cricket ever played here is played by south Asian ex-pats who don't have the time of day for an American who wants to learn the sport. :(

If this lot had've batted patiently they'd have just piddled around and gotten out cheaply anyway because they literally don't know how to bat like that, and a WC quarterfinal is too late to change that. They need to find 3-4 batsmen in domestic cricket who know how to rotate the strike and build innings and develop them rather than trying to convert the sloggers they've got currently.

Yeah it's really hard to pick up a new team sport as an adult. Realised uni was probably my last chance which is why I joined softball and handball. Gonna quit handball though because it's ****ing violent and i've got mild tendonitis in my elbow from throwing in all three sports i play.

I have a cousin in Phoenix, Arizona. Too bad the only ground he has probably seen is at the top of his head.

There are 0 dedicated cricket grounds here. Cricket played here is played with artificial pitches in public parks.

Better than nothing I guess? I can't claim to know better though.

Ah, he's a 40+ techie who's like 6 foot 5. Went to the US and became too cool for cricket. Has become a basketball fanatic and I don't care for it.:p
