SA against India and SL v Eng were two of the more recent ones that just killed me inside.

Imagine how you feel when ODIs go down to the last 3-4 overs. Then imagine feeling that for an entire session or more. Test cricket is just on another plane at times.
Really envy people who were old enough to be huge test cricket fans for Kolkota 2001. 3 full days of dat feel.

I watched the New Zealand vs. Australia test in Hobart a few years ago. I just about died.

Test cricket when it's a close result is possibly the best thing ever. Except maybe watching a USA vs. Canada ice hockey game at the Olympics, for me personally. I'm still devastated by losing 1-0 to Canada in the Olympic semifinal, and that was over a year ago :(

Reminds me of another test I watched that was particularly exciting. I think it was played in England, and it was England vs. Sri Lanka. The details I remember about it were that it was really looking like a boring draw and England declared immediately when Ian Bell got his century. Then, totally unexpectedly, England managed to bowl out Sri Lanka in a single session and won the match.

That's all I remember about it, which is a product of it having been on live around 4 a.m. my time and me probably being drunk while watching it (I don't remember if I was, but if the local time is 4 a.m. I'm probably either drunk or asleep).
Yeah, first match of the 2011 SL tour of England iirc.

understanding baseball it made me understand cricket a bit
Yeah, I found that a lifetime of watching cricket certainly helped me understand baseball a lot quicker, and to appreciate its nuances. I love both sports now.

I'm also lucky enough to have a ball club I can passionately support. If you're looking for something similar in cricket, I suggest New Zealand ;)

He wasn't atg material. Showed glimpses of atg level skills for brief periods in his career at various times. If he had sustained that for a large portion of his career, he would have been. 2003 was when he was the exciting prospect stabilizing in the team. Then he was dropped later, came back as the work horse and then found his rhythm and became the veteran of the side from 2008 onward. He finished as the veteran on 2011. Good bowler who could have been a legit great if not for his fitness issues.
2 awesome WCs while being decent-good otherwise in ODIs = ATG for me.

WCs are just so, so central to ODIs post-2000.

Cape Town redux more or less gave me grey hairs

I'm pretty inclined towards New Zealand simply because I find them to be a pretty neat country to be honest. :P

I watched that live too... it started ad 1:00 a.m. my time. I was pretty drunk by kickoff. Was one of the tensest rugby matches I've ever watched.
it was a tense game, though it was also a ****ing terrible one. So many mistakes and so little action, it was just a kind of stalemate where France were happy just to hold us off and we were terrified to do anything.

Australia has so many bowlers and so many batters that it seems like they are playing 15 players.

Started playing baseball (well softball actually) last year and holy **** the number of plays you can make when you pick up the ball just ****ed me in the head. I bat and field really well compared to everyone else who just started thanks to cricket but I desperately need people to tell me where to throw when I pick up the ball and a base coach for when I'm batting

Yeah, it was a **** game that was only exciting because it was a RWC final. Half the match was played inside the ten meter lines. 90% of the match was played in the neutral side of the 22m lines. If it hadn't been the final it would have been extremely boring to watch. But it was a final, so... well, I was drunk watching it so what does my opinion matter? :P

(drunk is a common theme when I express opinions on sport... lol)

One key difference I notice between baseball/softball and cricket on a semi-related note is that in baseball if you hit the ball you're compelled to run.

Imagine if that were the case in cricket. There would be a lot more run outs, and matches would end a hell of a lot more quickly.

Also, Pakistan all out for 213 is pretty bad from what I can tell (most of you might know better). I think Australia will chase this down without much difficulty, no?

Shouldn't be, but pakistan are a pretty good bowling unit and scars from my memory of australia's many lollapses still haunt me.

You never know. Stranger things have happened. We have too many good batsmen to screw this up though I would say.
