Sri Lanka always get way too funky/panicky with their selection ideas in the later stages of tournaments. Absolutely no reason to move Thirmanne to six or bring in Kaushal instead of Senanyake other than to try to manufacture an unlikely hero story and look like geniuses. They ****ed around in the last World Cup also -- resting players at the start, randomly dropping guys in the final etc.

Ah, Kaushal was the young lad who debuted in the boxing day test and received a fair old pasting from McCullum before eventually claiming his wicket. Thought he looked quite promising actually, but still a huge called to replace Senanyake.

I can only assume he was overlooked as a function of looking pretty ineffective against Australia,

Kusal opening might not be a bad idea.. he's pretty useless anyway, but he is less useless as an opener. Thiri has been giving a slip catch in every single game, and he's shown that he can handle finishing before.

I don't mind Kaushal playing tbh, but yeah, Perera opening with Thirimanne at 6 is dumb if they actually do it.
