It's a really weird, weird logic that makes no sense whatsoever, along with "he's due a failure after back-to-back tons" or "Brendon McCullum has to win this toss, he's lost the last 623 in a row!"
It's snobby to say it's weird logic imo. It's incorrect logic yes, but it's pretty obvious as to how so many people come to that conclusion.

i was so confused at the commentators calling zimbabwe a strong fielding side, I've literally never seen a match where they haven't dropped awful catches.

Hamilton Masakadza surely does not believe in the logic that if you have dropped a catch or two you won't drop another for the next 10 games.

I believe in the "getting a loss out of the way" concept to an extent. Complacency is natural and gets to everyone, even professionals. A loss once in a while keeps your focused and reminded that losing is a possibility if you don't treat every team with the same respect and every game with the same focus. It's better to get a kick up the butt in a game which doesn't matter.
Yeah but fans talk as if the kick up the butt in a meaningless game then makes it far less likely that the team will play as badly in the next game. And they talk as though a loss is actually a good thing, and actually prefer it to a victory. I can understand the notion of the team being put under pressure and more members of the squad being 'tested', but losing is never a good thing. It just isn't.

that's just fans trying to make themselves feel better. I had similar excuses lined up when Anderson and Ronchi got out last night

yeah I agree but I also agree with OS that a loss is never preferable to a win.
It isn't. But if you are to have a loss, better to have it earlier than in the knock outs. Ideally you would want the team tested but not lose like Nz the other day.
