Check out the googly from round the wicket by Astle to have Munro stumped in the second innings. Must be almost the ball of the season so far.

AUCKLAND ACES vs CANTERBURY

Also, good to see Nuttall back and with some quality wicket balls.

I just looked up the new Wellington opener...

WTF. Again, over developing local young talent, they are playing a 32yo ex Indian Domestic player from 10 years ago.

Something needs to change in Welly, and I'm looking at the top.
They have kept giving Weerasundara chances with Wellington A on flat wickets tbh. Raki has based his whole technique on the consistency of pace and bounce he gets in indoor facilities, it seems.

When he ventures outside, his game only sort of works in pretty pampered and controlled environments, like Lincoln, or Dubai.

Kip I need some conspiracy theories on Moles' coaching and team selection for Afghanistan.

This is almost my ideal line up. Switch Najibullah Zadran with Noor Ali Zadran or Mirwais Ashraf (depending on whether we need to play an extra bowler or batter) and I am super happy. I am glad we have moved past the days of Karim Sadiq and Mohammad Shahzad staying in the team even when they were completely out of form.

Will be interesting to see once the video is uploaded, but I'd guess batting would have been pretty difficult yesterday in NP after heavy rain lower north island the day before. Was very humid around midday in welly when I took my toddler for walk/run/splash around midday.

3/0 | WELLINGTON FIREBIRDS vs CENTRAL STAGS

Yes, not sure but presumably that is the case with a relatively low score for Pukekura Park. Very good figures for McEwan. This is technically a home game for Wellington too after it was shifted from Karori Park.

Leo Carter off to a good start for Canterbury, coming in to open in place of Dawson.

Debut for Finnie for Otago, great opportunity for him.

But Mark Craig is absent, disappointing, as with Sodhi last 2 rounds. I would really like to see Craig, Astle, Sodhi, Patel going head to head in this late season Plunket season.

O'Donnell dug in today at a crucial time, as he has done a few times this season actually.

His season strike rate is very modest, but at this stage I'd say it indicates some maturity and willingness to put in some hard yards (opinion based just on following games online) rather than anything lacking.

Of the top run scorers - Looking down a list of strike rates it looks like Blundell has had to do the same for Wellington. Joon is just slow. Carl Cachopa also striking in the 30s this season but I've not actually paid attention to his circumstances.

Nice. You don't need a three-card trick for an agribusinessman, a two-card trick is more efficient.

Yep if it wasn't for Chennai, we could've been just four weeks away from Henry getting a Duke into his hands, and seeing the English press wax lyrical as he duly rips through county sides all April, forcing a surprise Test debut at Lord's. ****ing Flem and Chennai.

Duffy with his first 5-fer. Good stuff, making great progress this season.

And Canterbury far too good for ND. Astle polishes off the tail as a good leg spinner should. Although by Blocky-law: tail end wickets don't count if they're taken by Sidhi. Hmmm, perplexed ......

Astle is getting seriously good. Post CWC I hope selectors go down a Craig/Astle for tests route. Sodhi/Santner developed for short form formats for a few years, with NMac to hold their hands for a year or 2.

Yeah, Astle with 34 wickets at 25, is having the best season by any spinner in NZ domestix for a long, long time. Decidedly won the leggie battle with Sodhi in this game. Unfortunately for him, there are no sub-continent tours lined up anytime soon, so it may be a while before he gets another chance.

Re: Duffy. I've been impressed with his economy in particular. Still a couple of seasons away but he'll probably dominate next season and then perhaps make the squad in a couple of years.

For England...

Latham | Brownlie | Williamson | Taylor | McCullum | Neesham | Watling | Craig | Bracewell | Southee | Boult _____________ Wagner | Henry | Anderson | Astle/Sodhi

Are we agreed?

Would be smart to take more than the usual 15 tbh. It would mean Ronchi and a batsman can slot in.
