If he is still playing FC cricket (and I don't see why he wouldn't despite what CA is saying), that's awesome news.

Certainly is saying he wants to play just that NSW might not want to pick him. Can't see it personally. Eddie on his early season form would have NSW sitting on top of the Shield table now.

Would have to be a better than evens chance of playing when the test squad is unavailable, but he'll struggle to get enough games to press for a test return.

Would think he'd be pretty high up in the pecking order for the Test squad? With Rogers likely retiring after the Ashes along with Maddinson and Silk moving down the order he's only really competing with Burns for an openers slot with most of the other options being rather poor (Quiney) or blacklisted (Cosgrove).

Thinking about it though the selectors will probably just go back to Watson as opener.

Silk also in the reckoning IMO. Had a shocking season this year, but he fits into neither category you've listed there.

Silk will certainly be on the cards at some point but given he's been batting at 3 with slightly more success than when he was opening it's hard to really put him in contention for the Bangladesh tour.

Burns would have to be the one they'd be looking at now as an opener, but yeah Ed would be high up the list as of today if there were injuries to Davey and Buck.

Blues stress over Doran

Another left-hander from NSW, 10 years Warner's junior, could well be an Australian teammate of his in the future, according to plenty of decent judges, which is why Jake Doran is hot property. The 18-year-old rookie-contracted Blue is in serious demand and the defending Shield champions are desperate to shrug off competition for his signature from other states as he weighs up his future. It's why we found it very interesting that Doran was named on Wednesday in a 14-man squad for NSW's final game of the regular season against Western Australia in Perth from Friday. If the teenager plays, it will be his much-awaited first-class debut.
