It's Tough Being Me - The Kevin Pietersen Story

Yep, it would take something as unlikely as Bangladesh eliminating Eng from the WC

Oh wait ......

Anyway, despite the fact that the ECB have been proven to be 100% incorrect in their treatment of KP, there is nothing to be gained from bringing him back now

Sack Downton, Moores the selectors and suck it up for a while amidst copious thrashings is the only answer not KP
Haha yeah this is exactly my view. KP should never have been sacked in 2014 (was fine with his sacking in 2012, but once brought back...) but his position in the team now would be untenable post his book and comments.

Since the 2007 WC, KP averages 33 in ODIs. The much maligned Bopara averages 30 in the same period (granted I'd imagine he's scored them more slowly) and has at times contributed with the ball to a semi-significant level.

I mean I cbf to look the stats up for anyone else, and again I accept SR etc would come into play, but really, he'd have made **** all difference in this WC

In theory we might have missed him in Tests, but the new/young guys stepped up to the plate pretty well

I'd love him to be able to be in the T20 team though as he's world XI material there. But he's a knob and life goes on

I have always been of the belief that much of the KP ****-storm might have been avoided if England had simply picked him for that WI tour & T20 WC last year before omitting him from tests on the basis of rebuilding after Ashes debacle/no fc in England due to him playing IPL, etc

Don't think that even the biggest KP booster could argue that changes needed to be made to the test team

Unfortunately, the ECB decided to stick the knife in and twist it, making a martyr out of him and figures of derision of themselves in the process

Whoever devised that strategy was a ****ing idiot

Not wrong there, the handling of it was pathetic and is the reason it is still talked about now. If they had done it sensibly nobody would have said anything.

Handling was atrocious but I think the real reason it is still talked about is England's mediocre to poor results since. That and KP and his allies are making a lot of noise.

Interesting that Downton doesn't want to make anyone a scapegoat now but didn't care as much after the Ashes.

Thought Barnes' piece was pretty ordinary, some nice writing addressing some points that have been churned over so many times that grass has turned to mud.

Here we go. Since the start of 2009 (i.e. the five years building up to the WC): Batting records | One-Day Internationals | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

So arguable that we miss Trott, Strauss, Collingwood, Cook, Samit, Davies, Shah and Kieswetter. lol.

In the actual tournament itself the only people who actually performed worse than KP had in the previous five years were Hales, Morgan, Ballance and the bowlers. Bell, Root, Moeen, Buttler, Taylor and Woakes all did better.

Well, it's exactly what the likes of myself wanted to see from him. Had he done this last year and kept his mouth shut I'd probably be firmly Team KP.

Suppose it adds some credence to the 'why would he bother with county cricket if he had no chance of playing for England' line of argument, though that in itself is a poor reflection on the modern game in many ways.

Anyhow. Let's see what happens. Moores is still coach, Cook is still captain, Anderson and Broad are still in the side. Lots of broken relationships will need mending even if the ECB themselves reopen the door.

Believe it when I see it etc.

There is no chance of it but I would still love him back at Hampshire, especially if Vince is going to playing for England at some stage.
