Dwayne Smith

International Coach
It isn't batting position it's career progression. Before 2008 he was a James Franklin esque bowling all rounder. Since 2010 he reinvented his entire game to be a James Franklin esque batting all rounder.
Is that anything to be proud off though?

Since being recalled in 2014:

55, 24, 5, 9, 46, 97, 0, 29, 64, 5, 0, 31, 18, 23, 0, 31, 6,

So spudly. Average of like 25 or something. Should have stayed a Franklin bowling allrounder.

no. You can't say batting lower affected his batting when its used as to reasons why Dhoni has a great average.
No he was a completely different player then. It's not like he would've been better if he opened; he was **** back then. After he reinvented himself they picked him again and he went alright for a while.. and now he's been **** again.

His original selection in the squad was fair enough. He's **** though so he should've been dropped already. But all up his overall average means **** all.

It means he was not a batsman before and now he's a **** batsman. It still shows a team shouldn't be opening in a world cup with a bloke who used to not be a batsman and is now a **** batsman. It doesn't mean **** all.

An average of 18 tells you that a world cup major nation has had 4 years to plan for this and their opener is a bloke who used to bowl and bat poorly and is now a guy who doesn't bowl and bats poorly. Just because it isn't the same as looking at Dhawan average doesn't mean the point Warne and others were making doesn't stand.

Dwayne Smith isnt the worst top eight opener in this world cup. One of them obviously, but not the worst.

Still not many ahead of him among Top 8, barely 1.

WI - His opening partner, Gayle, better than him
India - Both Dhawan & R Sharma better than him
Australia - Both Warner & Finch better than him
NZ - Both Nuptial & McCullum better than him
SA - Both De Kock & Amla better than him
SL - Both Thirimanne & Dilshan better than him
Pak - A Shehzad better than him but I will back him to do better than Younis Khan or Nasir Jamshed at this point

Heck, both of the Bangladesh and Ireland's along with Coetzer of Scotland openers are better than him in the opening spot.
