Under performing XI

Athlai

Not Terrible
I've watched pretty much every game, lets do this.

Gayle
Dilshan
Sangakkara
Taylor
Morgan (c)
Samuels
Buttler (+)
Broad
Anderson
Roach
Malinga

12th man Watto

I went for the players you'd expect most out of in the ODI game.

Hashim, de Kock and Rohit very unlucky not to be featured but I don't think they've looked as terrible as the others occupying their team position.
FMd they didn't need to take it so personally. Taylor probably on for a century this weekend now.

Ross Taylor has cemented his place in this XI. With only the minnows to go he will not be able to make it out.

Broad and Anderson are shoe-ins now, as whatever they do against Bang and Afghanistan doesn't really count. Three times out of three when it's mattered, they've been abject.

And I don't buy the excuses that some folks make for them.
Apparently they weren't at fault against NZ, as our batting didn't set any sort of target, which must be news to Mitchell Starc.
Apparently they weren't at fault against Aus, as their batting is just too strong, which must be news to Trent Boult.
Ditto against SL today, which must be news to the NZ bowlers who skittled them in the earlier group match.

Clearly it's a WC too far for Anderson, whose body ain't what it used to be. Ditto Broad, although presumably it's the brain that's gone into premature decline.

It's odd to think that 12 years ago Anderson initially made his name as a one-day specialist in this part of the world.

Did he? I always thought he struggles in Australia without the duke ball.

edit: hmm, actually, his stats in AUS for ODI are pretty decent now that I've checked.

IIRC Anderson's best performances came in 2002/03 when he was very inexperienced - I think he'd been playing for Burnley not long previously, and certainly didn't have much FC experience with Lancashire. There was one game in particular when his 10 overs went for about 12 runs, or something almost as astonishing.

Ross Taylor should be the new captain of this team. Great things were expected, great things are expected and all he is doing is playing like a tailender. Can we swap him for one of the minnows batsman maybe the Arab bloke that scored a ton against the Irish?

I'd like Chris Rattue to write an article about how useless he is. Apparently he needs to have a reason to play good like a back to the wall angry performance?. I'd sub him out for latham soon if he doesn't perfom, really pissing me off his constant poor performances. I must admit I hold him to a much higher standard than Guppy and Elliott and I should he's meant to be our best player. Even if I hold him to their standards he has still been our worst performer so far in the world cup.

I'm guessing Athlai is questioning your complaint about his "constant poor performances" when his ODI performances over either of the last 12-15 months, or just immediately before the WC (take your pick) were freakishly good. He's now had 3 failures and that apparently amounts to "constant poor performances". In short, your post was bad and you should feel bad.

Even his decent scores have come at generally below par strike rates especially initially and put big pressure on the rest of the batting line up. Disregard anything more than 6 months ago as it counts for very little in terms of current form.

You reckon he's been awesome do you? What do you think of his match changing knock on Saturday?
