I'm willing to forgive terrible looking dismissals for only a few balls faced. If Anderson hadn't fought through though to make a contribution his innings would have been even uglier than it was and comfortably in the realms of terrible.

I dunno, don't want to be too negative though. Still disappointed with the way australia batted but it was definitely an amazing game to watch.

Oh my word just seen the replay, those dismissals of Anderson and Vettori are up there with Clarke's today

This and some good post game analysis from both sides of the ditch have been dishing out the likes.

in 20/20 hindsight a crucial ball was that fearsome yorker Kane kept out. That would have beaten many batsmen, even world class batsmen early in their innings, and was the most deadly ball he copped all day imo. That gets through, we lose. I saw it tailing in on my ****ty grainy feed and got very worried.

The way I look at it, Clarke and Vettori's dismissals were the worst because they are cakes and they had faced some balls. Taylor, Smith etc are cakes but got good nuts early and that's going to happen. Likewise Maxwell and Anderson are icing so getting out ugly will happen on occassion.

Yeah, at the time that ball worried me. When KW kept it out, I thought he was likely to hang around (at the very least) and help guide the chase.

did you watch the game watto? how do you think marsh's shot compared to anderson's?
The fact that the Ump had to go to the TV replay shows how unlucky Anderson was. I thought at the time that the ball was a mediocre one so I didn't blame the batsman for having a go at all.

On-the-other-hand, all that Marsh had to do was to keep the ball out, and so he betrayed a complete lack of defensive technique/composure at a critical time.

Smith's shot was pretty naive tbh. Forcing off the back foot with an angled bat = fine against hacks, not so fine against Daniel Vettori

Hopefully this doesn't start a ****fight, but I thought that Cummins catch was almost identical to the Taylor one in the Pakistan series that Taylor asked to review and the non-conclusive nature of it gave the benefit of the doubt to the batsman and he stayed in.

Dan doesn't get that wicket 5 years ago he is getting a shade more spin since his comeback. Not taking away from your point I just wanted to chip in with that.

I think they've (sensibly) changed the rules so it works a lot like DRS now, if it's inconclusive it goes to the onfield ump's call. That seems to be doing a good job of cutting the bull**** calls where everyone who knows how those catches works know that it's clearly, clearly out but the replays are inconclusive.

Not about spin, it's about changes of pace. Fired it in a bit quicker, really not a smart shot to play.

I think this is basically true, but Australia probably have too much icing in their lineup to really look at it like that.

The third umpire is a human being and probably figured the blackcaps were going to do it in a doddle regardless of his decision

I think we can all agree that regardless of whether they're favourites or not, the NZ team looked awful in their white and gold jerseys.
