Yeah but it's not guarantee it will swing and maybe it might for 5 overs then what, it's 50 overs and I look at it like this New Zealand have there best side in years but Australia are number 1 for a reason and well let's just say Australia handle pressure and big games better than New Zealand in fact whens the last time New Zealand had so much pressure going into a game.
this makes 0 sense

i mean, when was the last time we actually made it further than nz in a one day tournament

What would the rankings be if 12 months ago all the teams were be on 0 points? That is a true reflection. We had to fight from the bottom of the table so even if we played everyone over the last 12 months and didn't lose a game we still wouldn't be ranked number one, probably, you get the point.

Does this game actually mean anything in the end?
Not really. I actually think the team that loses this game will benefit more as far as the larger tournament is concerned. It'll dispel any complacency they have and allow them to re-focus ahead of the knockout games. Whereas the winner will be labeled tournament favourite and have to carry that pressure into the knockouts.

Yeah, also the team that loses will most likely get a semi-final vs India, which I would still prefer to a semi v South Africa. So c'mon Straya!

Starc is not exactly a metronome though, he bowls a lot of pies too. The beauty of Starc is he bowls a ton of unplayable balls as well. He can be easily as wayward as Johnson can be. If Starc bowled 135-140 the batsman would have more time. He would not bowl as many unplayable balls and he'd get despatched easier.

Just my opinion though.
There's also a chance that Starc is slightly more wayward pushing for extra pace at the mid-high 140s than he would be settling in at mid-high 130s. Saw a similar thing with Brett Lee. When he pulled it back from the 155-160s he bowled with a lot more control.

One thing Starc also has that Mitch doesn't is a really good seam position, hence the swing.

On another note, anyone who pitches short today (assuming it's going to swing a lot) should be given a really firm kick in the arse. If anything, short boundaries down the ground should encourage you to pitch it up a bit and let the batsmen see if they want to drive one. Shorter than top of off should see a month in the brig as a mandatory punishment.

I'm just saying when was the last time nz had this much media coverage and odds on favourite, don't get me wrong new zealand are playing lights out but they havnt really been pushed or put under pressure as the bowling they have faced has been woeful to say the least. Like I sai said I'm quietly confident, I guess we will find out today if the rain holds out.

Do you think there form in odi might have something to do with the fact out of there last 28 matches 23 have been played in New Zealand just saying.

The ODI rise under Baz began with a series win in South Africa minus Ross Taylor and involving many new players so nah.

And even setting that aside, it's kind of an irrelevant point given that today's match is being played in NZ anyway.

This gets mentioned a lot.. but the thing is, only four of the blokes who played in that series decider are actually in the eleven now.. and two of them have different roles now, and one of them was Guptill. I don't agree with Bushranger at all, but I'm not sure that series really has much relevance to the current side just because they were wearing black shirts. It's a different side now.

As opposed to Australia who have played where exactly? UAE and Zimbabwe over the last year, how did you go in Zimbabwe?

Stunningly beautiful day here in Auckland today. Excited to be at Ellerslie and getting ready for my biggest work day of the year, but at the same time massively jealous of everyone lucky enough to be at Eden Park today. Let's do this, NZ.

wow is just me or what but the series against South Africa was played in New Zealand which south Africa won 2-0, that's actually the last time nz played a decent bowling attack.

I thought you might bring that up, let's not talk about the Zimbabwe game, worst thing I've ever seen, as far back as I remember Australia at least has one of those games were we lose to someone ordinary.
