C'mon SA, wake up ffs. We don't want you finishing 3rd or 4th.....

Honestly can't see Gayle doing much damage to the SA attack, even given what he did the other day.

Chris Gayle did not train with West Indies the day before the match against South Africa as he continues to battle a back issue that has plagued him for almost two years. Gayle was "given the day off," according to a team spokesperson but "is available," for Friday's match at the SCG.

After his World Cup record 215 against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, Gayle shed light on the injury which he said "can't seem to be solved," and restricted his ability to prepare for games. Gayle explained that he was not able to have as many gym sessions as he would like and that even simple movements like sitting down can become painful after a long day in the field.

In order to give him as much rest as possible, West Indies were being cautious with their management of him, especially ahead of their two biggest games in the group. They play South Africa on Friday followed by India, before taking on the UAE.
Complicated code for Gayle wanting to have a couple of days in the bar to celebrate his 200...(I shouldn't be so cynical...)

This is an important game for Proteas. They wouldn't want WI batsmen to blow their morale away.

South Africa have way overanalyzed the loss to India, and I'm afraid to say they don't seem to be any closer to resolving their choking issues. Losing Philander is a big blow to a bowling attack that is already lacking some penetration - getting early wickets is crucial for them to restrict a batting line-up because the middle-late overs are their weakness.

That said, I don't expect Gayle to do as well for a few more games, and WI are coming back from getting destroyed in the ODIs in SA, so this should be in the bag.

It was raining rather heavily in the morning on my way to work for a solid hour or so. Skies are looking decent at the moment although there is significant cloud cover.

RSA losing to the Windies is good for Pak, so I'll be hoping for a WI win.
Ridiculous. This Pakistan side just doesn't deserve to be in the last 8.

And also RSA losing to WI won't make a difference either. SA are going to pummel the other opposition regardless.

C'mon mate, they may be true, but surely you still want the result that's going to give your side the best chance of making a late charge to the quarters, regardless of how remote that feels atm.

So Abbott and Behardien?

Feels like they'll stick with Parnell, as a sign of faith in him, and just bring Behardien in as bowling cover and to lengthen the lineup.

Two hours away from the match. Looking outside my office window (probably a 20 minute walk from the SCG) I see clear skies from one side and dark grey clouds on the other. I would expect rain to cause a few interruptions.

Duminy is a doubtful starter too it seems. Hope he is fit else the balance of the team is ****ed.

Insanity if so. Abbott has to replace Philander. Anything else and the selector on duty should probably be shot.

Also, ****ing ridiculous that South Africa only has one spare quick IMO.

Duminy could be a huge loss if SA do lose early wickets.

I suppose they couldn't help but drop Parnell after his ordinary afternoon vs. India.
