Super win for India!!! Always had a feeling that we were going to win this one but by this margin, no way.

Hats off to Dhawan! Have to give it to him, he just proved everyone wrong including me. That flick six of Morkel was just ***. Also, what's with our bowling?!? We were rushing SA with pace and bounce!!

Indian fielding in crunch games is top notch. One of the main reason we won the WC last time around was the fielding keeping SL quiet in the first 20 overs. Once we get our tail up the fielding improves considerably.
Also, ever since some of our old guard have been dropped (Gambhir,Zaheer,Sehwag etc),our fielding has gone up a notch. The fielding of the bowlers is what is very encouraging atm .I mean just look at how good a fielder Mohit Sharma is !

Whatever it takes!!!
Excellent from Yadav.

Where are all the "best fielding side in the world" jabs when the guys put in efforts like this and ABDV's runout?

Tasting it, probably.. Dhoni said it once during the 2013 Champions Trophy and its stuck with us in CW forever... :)

Today he was very careful to say that they are not the best fielders amongst fast bowlers in the world but they were still reasonably quick and had decent throwing arms... Guess he has a CW account and has learnt his lesson, tbh.. :p

Why are there doubts about our bowling? The whole issue with India's bowling has been inconsistency, they have enough pace and bounce to trouble the best, its just that they don't bowl in the right areas consistently. No one should be surprised that Indian quicks are making opposition players hop around, just gotta make sure its done match after match instead of lame leg side freebies and wide short ones outside off.

It was the "they're usually this good" call that got me.

And I'd say their fielding when they don't think they can win or have something to win other than a match itself is more indicative of their abilities. Again, not saying they are completely dreadful. But they are getting way over-hyped.

The guys who post "best fielding side in the world" after every bloody misfield and drop are the ones overhyping them... Dhoni said it ONCE during CT 2013... That is almost 2 years ago, guys... We think this is one of the better fielding sides India has put out in a long long while and damn it is exciting to finally see that we can actually get people out through fielding for a change... Yes, we suck at catching positions in tests and when we are down in the game or after too much cricket, but it is still a good fielding side.. May not be the best but being the 4th or 5th best fielding side in the world, at least in ODIs, is still a damn sight better than how we used to be...

Didn't really expect such a consistent performance from all three pacers.

I think people are more taking the piss out of Gavaskar and Shastri than Dhoni. It's understandable for Dhoni to say that -- he's not meant to have perspective on things like that -- but some of the BCCI commentators have been absurd with it for a while.

Indian undoubtedly are a good fielding side in one day cricket though. They're not the best, and Tests are another story, but they're good.

This, and mainly Shastri tbh. Gavaskar usually just talks about how much they've improved over the years.

I do understand the desire for slight overstatement as a correction of the stereotype though. Similar thing happening now that NZ can actually play cricket; we're probably the best team in the world by a country mile etc etc.

Exactly, its the consistency India has lacked, not skill or ability. Just a matter of actually bowling to their potential consistently.
Fair point with the bowling but I think it would also be fair to say the Indian batsmen have lacked the skill to play the quick, bouncy Australian bowlers.

Are you referring to tests or ODIs? We scored almost 270 at the MCG in the tri series against Aus, and at least 3 India bats had performed solidly in the tests, so I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Late on this, but the idea that AB de Villiers could potential miss a WC quarter/semi/final because the team takes a shocking ten minutes longer to bowl their overs in a three and a half hour long innings just underlines the whole absurdity of suspending captains for slow over-rates.

Maybe he could do what Bailey did and get suspended on purpose against one of the weaker teams so he's free from it during the knockout matches, or they could be like SL and appoint someone else as the "official" captain lol.
