2nd Match - Australia v England

It definitely doesn't have to be 3, but I don't think it can be 6. He'd be fine 3 or 4; 5 would be okay at a push but he takes too long to get set to bat 6 in ODIs for mine. He's a middle overs accumulator that takes a while to get set. I'd have sooner batted Ballance at 6 than Taylor I think.
I'd go 3: Ballance, 4: Taylor, 5: Root, 6: Morgan

I think all of them can bat quickly at the end, but the latter two can probably get going quicker.

They aren't going to get anywhere near this total. Can't see anyone in the lineup capable of a 60 in 40 type innings, which is mandatory in such chases.

Edit: Apart from Buttler
I don't think this is the issue at all, I think pretty much everyone can do that on their day. Big tons are what you need as well though, and realistically only Bell and Morgan have EVER done it before against a good bowling attack.

Yeah I agree. Replacing Bopara with Ballance was a fair enough option -- not my preferred one, but fair enough and definitely better than just picking Bopara -- but if that was going to happen then Morgan needed to be #6.

Root is arguably the best batsman in your team, why would you want him at 5 behind two inexperienced players? Plus there is Morgan to cover the lower middle order.

1. bell
2. ballance
3. taylor
4. root
5. morgan
6. ali
7. The Man

lol jk but i dont really get why Ali opens. i just assumed it's because you needed to pick a spinner and you just shoved him into the opening spot like australian domestic teams do with their keepers

NEED TO EXPLOIT THE POWERPLAY. MODERN ONE DAY CRICKET. BEHIND THE TIMES. CAN'T HAVE TWO PROPER BATSMAN OPENING. SUICIDE. etc.

Enjoying the TV coverage. Good little snippet stats, nice international voices. Balanced. Cricket the focus. Refreshing.

that reminds me, I have to make that twitter account and abuse Buzz

I'd actually be inclined to move Root up the order to no.3. There is Morgan and Buttler to take care of PP2 and slog overs.

My list of preferences:

1. Open with Hales, Mooen at 6
2. Open with Ballance, Moeen at 6
3. Leave Moeen opening, Hales straight in at 6
4. Leave Moeen opening, Ballance at 3, move everyone else down one
5. Leave Moeen opening, Ballance in, have some other different combination of 3-5 but Morgan bats 6
6. Daylight
7. What they've done here ie. Ballance 3, Taylor 6
8. Bopara

So they finally axed Bopara but still managed to pick the next worse option.

I'm just grateful we solved the Cook problem and cured England's OD batting
I like how because Cook is not there people now talk about England's new brand of exciting, free spirit cricket. Even though our top three/four now has more accumulators than it had during the SL series. It's like they considered him a dictator who was individually holding each batsman back by not allowing them to play.

People have legit made that argument with Bell's recent form btw. Instead of just realising he always plays well when recalled to the side then does **** for ages.

border probably makes a good point re England being essentially a year behind in their recent team selections
