Warm ups for World Cup

Not disagreeing, but quite a sad reality check that we're rapt for our opener to average 26 with a SR of 72... Wonder if any other of the top 8 sides would take their opener scoring 26 off 36 any day of the week....
India would.

it's the biggest weakness in our side, and I'm prepared to live with it.

Yeah I'm kind of agreeing, just pointing out it's a sad state of affairs that we're prepared to accept such mediocrity from Guptill.

You mean since their 2 openers, Dhawan & Sharma average 44 @ 90 & 39 @ 82 respectively? Okay right.......
Dhawan has been in awful form though. I don't think he's even scored a total of 44 runs since landing in Australia.

If he could just grind out some starts for us this WC it would be great.

Dhawan is pretty much guaranteed to fail against any decent pace attack, and Rohit Sharma can be Guptill-esque at times. Their records are extremely flattering.

Over a few matches, 25 at a strike rate of 72 isn't going to lose you matches and does shield KW a bit from the new ball, so it's almost a net positive. Not ideal no, but other teams have far bigger weaknesses throughout their lineups.

If you look at Dhawan's last 6 ODIs since arriving in AUS this year, he averages under 19 and that includes one inningn of 59 vs AUS in a warm up game...so that's where ***** was coming from

Why is steyn not bowling?
Exactly what I came here to ask. Can't figure it out.

Is it some mind games from SA, lulling us into a false sense of security ahead of a possible game against them in the knockout stages?

The point is if he continued to fail like that he won't last long. India's strength is their batting, they won't accept an opener averaging in the 20s with a SR of 72 (all other things even) for long.

Yah I'd take 26 off 36 than golden ducks/3-ball ducks, 10, 20, and a bunch of Latham 5-15 innings (sorry), Kane needs stay in the hut until the new ball wears off a bit.

But...their fan just told you they want to replace Dhawan with Guptill...

Again we're agreeing then. Either way, it is us accepting mediocrity from one player (Guptill) whether other teams have bigger weaknesses or not.

I think NZ wouldn't be that stupid thinking wacking 350+ off a SA attack with 8 bowlers means we have SA in our control...I wouldn't let Steyn bowl if I were SA neither...why let a team that bascically knocked you out in the last 3 WC have the benefit of practicing against your No.1 strike weapon?

They weren't his exact words at all, and I very much doubt many Indian fans would seriously take Guptill over Dhawan in ODI's even if Dhawan's been out of nick recently & Guptill's the better fielder.

This is the beauty of SA....You can have them under the pump for a long period of time & they can turn a game on it's head in a heartbeat.

NZ 305 all out, SA to chase it down with 3 overs remaining. Such a ruthless side (unless it's a WC knock-out) :p

It might be that they want to keep our batsmen from a look at Steyn...It could backfire on them though, he might have needed the practise.

I would hahaha. Dhawan looks hopeless, won't score much this WC. Won't be surprised if he gets dropped and Rahane is asked to open.

I think Steyn isn't bowling because the other bowlers need the match practice more.
